Hello guys, this is the first time I’m posting on the forum. Yesterday, I brought home a new bunny (7 weeks old, gender unknown). I was thinking to bond Marshmallow (5 months old, male) with the new bunny after he has been neutered. He is scheduled for neutering at the end of next month as the clinic only operates on rabbits that are 6 months old and above. However, I noticed that Marshmallow had suddenly started to show hormonal behaviour such as circling and honking. I believe that the new bunny has caused his hormonal change and I’m unsure on what to do for the next month before he is neutered. They were not placed in the same cage and they are not in sight of each other. Marshmallow has calmed down since yesterday but occasionally will still thump his leg and seem agitated.

Is there any advice on how to tone down this behaviour until he has been neutered?

        Thank you so much

Bringing a new rabbit into the house often upsets an existing rabbit. Even if they’re not in the same room, they can likely smell each other on your clothing.

It should calm down as he gets used to the smell of the new bunny. It is very important that you keep them separated as rabbits can have horrible fights if they accidentally get into the same space before they’re bonded.

I suggest heading over to the bonding forum to read up on bonding

You won’t be able to begin bonding until both Marshmallow and the new bunny are neutered and spayed, so you still have another 5 months until you can start bonding. You could start prebonding (swapping them between hutches so they get used to the smell of each other) in a few weeks though, if you want to, or you can wait until after they’re neutered.
