You definitely will have to have Wubbie neutered before he can have a companion. You will need to wait at least a month after his surgery before attempting to bond him with another rabbit. Most rabbits do love to have a companion to groom, snuggle with and communicate as only rabbits can, but there are some rabbits who are perfectly content to be the sole rabbit in the house, and some that actually prefer to be the only rabbit. After seeing how my paired bunnies are together, I always plan to have two. When one has died, I get another companion for it soon afterward.
It’s rare, but sometimes bonding just doesn’t work, even after months of trying, so you have to be prepared to house your rabbits separately if you couldn’t get them to bond.
If you are seriously thinking of getting a companion for Wubbie, it would be good to go ahead and schedule his neuter surgery. Even if you don’t get this female lop that you are thinking of, Wubbie would be ready in the future to bond with any other rabbit that you might know of. You could also go ahead and get the female lop and schedule her spay surgery, keeping them separate until both surgeries are completed and a few weeks have passed. If you don’t get this female, you may want to try some rescues. Most rescues and some shelters spay and neuter their rabbits, so that would make it easier for you to start the bonding process, and it would likely save you money too.
