Hi, I’ve just bought a nebuliser for my rabbit who has an abscess in sinus and respiratory problems. I’ve been given some f10 by a specialist exotic vet. Please could anyone with experience let me know if this is useful as I’ve read some stories online about f10 being bad?

I’m sorry your bunny is ill. I have no experience with nebulizers and F10, but it seems to be common practice with reptiles, and online it seems like it’s being used for for treating respiratory infections in bunnies too. Many seems to use it together with other meds, like antibiotics and bisolvon (decongestant). Some say plain saline is good to nebulize too. You’re supposed to dilute the F10 with saline, not use concentrated F10.

I hope someone else here might know anything.

I have heard of doing this but I don’t know the specifics. I believe Dr Frances Harcourt-Brown was one to original trial this. Did the vet give you the F10 to saline ratio to use?
I thought about getting some for my rabbit Gooseman but he’s not overly congested currently. He is on penicillin though. I wouldn’t mind getting some for general cleaning though.

I think one of the concerns I read was it being too corrosive? But in the right dilution, that may not be an issue…

Definitely just saline should help also. Are you planning to set up a nebulisation “chamber” or just use the mask in front of his nose?

They never said anything about mixing it with anything! I’ve been giving it to her concentrated! Calling the vet now!!

Ah they’re all on their lunch! I’m so worried I’ve already given her some. I bought a plastic box from pound stretcher and cut a little hole in to slide the nozzle through. Only thing is the nozzle has a gap in the back so the air comes out of both ends if you get me? I had to hold a lid over the whole device to ensure she could get it all. Didn’t seem to bother her as she sat down after a while I’m in shock with her condition as she had a lump on her nose – abscess in nasal cavity and obviously they’ve shaved her and the wounds left open and looks awful. Doesn’t look like my baby to make matters worse her bonded partner who stayed with her the whole time suddently turned on her and attacked her before so I’ve separated them. They had been chasing each other before that (like how they did when they first met). Just concerned it’s stressing her out when he’s near her. I love her so much she’s my world. Vets yesterday absolutely drained my bank account £973 in total !!

It may have already been diluted for you..
I think there are different types of F10 also. Definitely good idea to run it past the vet again.
How has she been reacting to it so far?

Oh I know. They look so terrible when they shave the face!

With her bond mate, she probably still smells like the vets which can cause a pair to fight sometimes. You could try rubbing something from their habitat (towel, blanket..) on her to try transfer more familiar smells.

There are a lot of videos on youtube with DIY nebuliser boxes for rabbits. Have you checked out any of those?

                      Here is one: http://youtu.be/V29dG5fU5J4

Thanks for replying jersey girl. Just waiting for them to call me back. I hope they would have put on the instructions if I had to dilute it – she was ok in the box. Seemed a little bit confused but she’s still groggy from surgery yesterday. Watched loads of tutorials on YouTube haha but the nebulisers people have are different than mine. Also mine bubbled in the bottom which I will have to do some reading about as I’m not sure if it’s supposed to. I’ve tried to cuddle her with things which smell like her but I think it may be the smell of her open wound as it’s when he goes near her face he decided to attack her after sniffing around. yes it’s a awful sight to see them shaven
