So last night when I gave Layla her before bed snack, she was so excited, she just dragged the grass ball into her condo and went to town.

And I was tired.  So silly me forgot to latch her cage.  And at about 5:45am, I awoke to a bunny playing with my hair.  Cute but my first thought was, “Why is there a bunny in my room?  Oh yeah..  Cause I have a bunny.”  Ha.  But the awesome part is, she did so WELL!  No accidents, no chewed up anything, and after I’d closed her door, I’d been messing on my laptop and there it sat, power cord in tact.  I know not to depend on this, but I was very excited.

I just wonder how long she was out.  My thought is she’d probably just noticed she could sneak through about 5 minutes before that and said “hmm…  human, pet me.”  ha.

Even funnier:  When I woke up this morning for real, she was just LEANING against the door like she thought she’d be able to push it back open… too cute!

That is so cute. But you are right to not get excited about her leaving the power cord. Shadow has been with us almost a year and he only just discovered my phone cord to the modem. Mind you it is damn near invisible and tacked against the molding. I have gone through 3 of them and the cordless phone recharger since he has discovered them. And it has become his mission to thwart any bunny proofing.

His single mindedness is frightening. When he discovered he could climb and could get just about anywhere by using that surface as a spring board that was his mission. I would not be surprised to find him dangling from the ceiling fan by his teeth one morning.

aw that is so cute! you are lucky you got away with nothing damamged hehe, just remember that your bun could have got through a lead which was plugged in, and that wouldnt be nice! its awesome she was so well behaved just be careful! Alot of people do have free range bunnies who have full house access all the time, which is a good idea but i dont think i could get my house THAT bunny proofed hehe

Awe that’s adorable! I left the door open once too and did an inventory of the house and found no electrical cords were chewed. I was truly shocked. Sometimes you just don’t know about them.

I was very shocked one day coming home from work and finding Charlie sitting on the toilet. I had left the bathroom door open in my rush and he’d jumped up onto the toilet. Thank goodness the lid was down, otherwise I would have found a very upset bunny. Now I’m careful to leave the door closed and have made up signs warning people to close doors or risk life and limb. I’m convinced he’d been sitting there fora while, too scared to jump down cause of the slippery surface because he was so happy when he got his four little feet back on carpet!

                  *snort*

Shadow on the ceiling fan. oh my word… lol.

that is funny, but i have to ditto what KimberlyandDarren said… you got lucky this time. she might not have even left her cage until 5 minutes before she woke you up… but i would not make a habit out of this, at least not without safety precautions. my house is very bunny-proofed and always picked up, but my two are still confined overnight. if something happened and they broke thru the proofing and i was sound asleep, i could never forgive myself.

this is all besides the fact that if you do it once or twice, she’s going to expect it all the time. bunnies have long memories when they want to.

I left my buns out unsupervised for about 30 minutes while I was in my room last night – I come back and discover they managed to get by the barrier to my desktop computer and destroyed basically every single cord and cable I own going into my computer 🙁 I’m glad they didn’t get electrocuted, but I’m so angry I didn’t just protect the wires like I did elsewhere in my house!!!!

Maryann has escaped twice from her cage. Once was right after a rather heavy earthquake. She actually shot herself through an area maybe two inches wide in order to escape. AFter that though, all she did was hop around the entire apartment to make sure everything was OK and then went back to her cage.

The second time was after I put up the new condo. I locked everything down, went to go work on my computer and in about 15 minutes, there was this black and white face looking at me from around the bedroom door. She said, “You forgot one door,” and then hopped back into the enclosure.

Only because I cordoned off my bed and tore away the bottom liner to the boxspring.  Damned if she didn’t stay under there indefinitely.

Mimzmum…glad you had a good laugh. I find this morning he ate a hole in my tote bag. Damn if I know how he got to it. Markusdark, I have had cats that lived in the box spring after making a tear in the lining. So I can just imagine a rabbit getting in there. You just have to love her very subtle way of making her point about how you forgot one!

And K & D is right…no matter how bad they are, you love them and they are worth it.
