Nail trimming video

I know there are a lot of nail trimming videos on youtube, but someone recommended this one to me.  It is where you are seated and let the rabbit stand and nail trim.  It is supposed to be less traumatic, especially for those who do not like to be handled.  Ahem Clover here.

Can’t watch the video because I’m at work right now, but I don’t pick up Zeus to do his feet.  I pet him for a good 10 minutes until he’s good and puddle-d , then gently move each paw out from under him and trim them, between pets.  I usually do just one foot per night.

You have to purchase the video to actually see it and I did purchase and watch it but never tried it because I don’t have much problems doing nails. It was a very interesting technique and I’d love to know of anyone who has used it and what they feel about it as well.

I do that method for the guinea pigs-they HATE being handled and I think they hate me so there is no way I can burrito or trance them (in fact I think they shouldn’t go on their back) so I do the stand and trim.

I think it doesn’t matter what method you use-you simply must find a way to handle your bunny where they are not traumatized and don’t fight especially in fits and starts. So whether thats the kitchen table, vet clinic, bathroom, on a couch on the floor on the wall Whatever works. And don’t save it until you must clip the nails. Practice foot handling. Practice by clacking the nail clippers near the bunny (but not clipping nails)-it’s a lot to ask an animal to stand still and put up with something like that-so work up to it

As Sarita said, you do have to buy the video as it is for purchase only — but I have watched that video and it did really work. It teaches you how to trim bunny nails with out turning your bunny on its back. Instead it is a more stress free way for your bunny with your bunny in an upright comfortable position. (very similar to what bunnnnnieeee was describing.  It just teaches you how to actually do that and get your bunny used to that method.   It took me longer to get used to this as I am used to putting a bunny in a burrito or on its back and I can clip nails very quickly, but it’s still stressful for the bunny. I used it for Jack because he threw a fit — would try to kick and bite. So this method worked best for him. Vivian, as feisty as she is normally, is very docile and gentle when I trim her nails when I put her on her back. (She doesn’t go into a trance or anything, she just puts up with it –as if she seems to know I am not harming her and it will be over quickly).

I found the video very helpful though for bunnies that really get stressed out during nail trims.

Thanks for the feedback. Clover’s not big on nail trims, and I find it really hard to hold, see, and clip her naills. I do clip her nails in stages, more feeling like I’m distracting her versus having her be calm. So, that was why I was asking about this method. I’ll likely try this method as it may be less stressful for her.
