Nail Clipper Recommendation

I don’t need to clip Abby’s nails yet but I’m sure I’ll need to soon.  I haven’t heard many good reviews on clippers that were made for rabbits/small animals.  Plus with how much thicker her nails are than the little bunnies I don’t think they’d work.   I also know there are the 2 different type of clippers.  Is one better or easier than the other?  What kind of nail clippers do you use?

I use the guillotine style. I bought the small dog ones.

i find the guillotine style ones harder to use than the scissor type. I use:

They are easy to use, and are what the Rabbit Advocates use at the outreaches every month to do nail trims for people

I’ve tried a few different manual ones (my latest pair are the same ones my vet uses, sharper than most store bought, but then you have to be more careful how you clip) plus I have the Pedi-Paws, which is essentially a rotating emery board. It works nice, but I used it on my Yorkie one time and found that if you’re not watching closely you can draw blood with that by grinding too far just like you can with a pair of clippers.
Most of my buns don’t care for the noise it makes, even though I think it’s pretty quiet overall, so… *shrugs*
The maker of the clippers I use now is Miller’s Forge. Here’s a pic:

I can bet it’s easier to see nail quicks on a Flemish than it is on my little Holland lop though! 0_o His nails are SO dark I usually just have the vet do them anyway. It’s worth the $15 bucks for him to hate her instead of me.
(dang, just realized they didn’t trim him during his dental this week…ugh…means I’ll be doing it this month. yipes!)

I also use the cat/small dog guillotine ones. I was having some issues with my old pair not cutting fully, then I got a new pair from Foster/Smith (about 8 bucks) and it’s amazing how sharp they are. No more issues, just make sure to replace them maybe once a year…

The place I got my bunny from cuts the nails for $6 but if you are a member of their club you get them for $3 which is worth it to me but the car ride is about 35 to 40 minutes so I don’t know. I am going to buy some clippers too but Hoppy doesn’t like to be held or picked up just yet so I am not sure how I will actually get him relaxed enough to cut them myself. I took Hoppy for the first time last week for his nails and they had him back to me in less than 5 minutes I am still not sure if the drive was worth it especially with gas prices nearing $4.50 per gallon. I will decide by the next time he has to get them cut mid May what I am going to do. But this is a good thread cause I was not sure what to buy either if I went to the petstore to get them.
