I just came back from store and bit ago Miu has blood on her nose. It’s not a lot, she has a white patch on her nose and it looks like maybe a small scratch and bit of dry blood. I don’t know if her and Dorian had a scuffle, but that seems odd. They have been snuggling all day and usually she’s the more testy one in relationship.

I have been watching them and she let him sit next to her and wash. They haven’t snuggled yet, but that’s not unusual. She seems a little tense, but she is pretty high strung and it could be me projecting as well. She took a treat and sort of let me pet her. He’s his usual carefree self.

Worried, but no idea what happened. Maybe she just scraped her nose on something?

What is their enclosure made out of? Could she have cut her nose on wire or grid? Did you examine it closely? It does look like a scratch and not possibly coming from inside her nose?

They are freeroam. There’s a willow basket she could have scraped on, but not really anything else.

I went to go check that the wound wasn’t somewhere else and noticed that her nails were way to long. Got worried she could break one & started trimming and one looks very short and bleeding.  I may have done it accidentally as she wasn’t cooperating, but it was way shorter than I would trim. Now I am wondering if the blood is from that? But then again maybe I just did it. Her nose itself doesn’t look like it is scraped enough to bleed.

She’s very upset now and I feel like worts bun parent.

Tried to upload a photo of her nose, but it’s not showing up in my media and wouldn’t let me do it directly.  Her and Dorian seem fine with each other at least. Trimmed both their nails. Miu is traumatized by that now. Going to try and give her space and just monitor.

Oh and the dried blood is on bridge of nose. Doesn’t look like it came from inside nose.

Sorry to hear about Miu! It sounds like it could be possible the blood on her nose could have come from her nail if it was broken and/or bleeding. She could have been licking her paw and gotten a bit on her nose.

Longer bunny toes seem more prone to breaking, especially in free roam buns because they can be more adventurous and more places to potentially get them snagged.

But, you’re not a bad bunny parent, please don’t feel bad! Their nails grow quick and often, they are little divas about getting them trimmed lol. I have had a couple of buns who have broken a nail, too. It can happen. Just give her some space and maybe a snack as a peace offering. 🙂 And just keep an eye on things.

Ah, this makes more sense now. If the nail is much shorter than you would ever try to trim, then I’m going to guess it was already broken and bleeding. Especially if it wasn’t bleeding a lot at that point because a freshly broken nail is going to bleed A LOT. I can totally see her trying to nurse her wound and getting some blood on her nose.

Also, Brunosmama is right. You’re not a bad bunny parent. Nails are tricky and, yes, traumatizing.
