My Valentine’s Day present needs a name!!!! Update: We have a name!

As some of you may remember, I was considering getting another bunny a couple months ago…. Well, then I decided not to get another bunny, but I’ve been thinking about it more since then and there’s really no reason why I can’t open my home to another bunny.   I talked to my boyfriend about all this and…. being the awesome, fantastic, wonderful, thoughtful man that he is, he got me a bunny for Valentine’s Day!!!  Hehehe, he spoils me   We got her from the local HRS (so my BF told me about my present before today, obviously, so I could do the paperwork and take Leroy dating). 

I got her today and she is settled in now.  I’ll leave her alone for a couple or a few days before starting the bonding and playing with her so she can get comfortable here.  Her cage is right next to Leroy’s (but not touching) so they can see each other…. I’ll talk more about bonding them when I start a bonding journal, but I wanted to say this:  When I took Leroy dating he met several eligable ladies, and he was very interested in all of them, but… when he met this little girl, he started grooming her! On their first meeting!  We put them back together after he met some other girls and he groomed her even more!  She hasn’t groomed him yet, but I’m not worried yet   So their bond looks very promising so far.

Ok and… a couple pictures!  (Sorry about the poor quality, I took them on my cell phone).  Now here’s the deal.  Her name currently is Sweetpea. She DEFINITELY is a sweetie (and TINY!), but… I want something that matches the name Leroy a bit better   I do like the name Sweetpea but I was hoping for a more unique “human” name (since Leroy is a fairly uncommon name even for a person).  OR something that has to do with royalty seeing as Leroy’s name is from the French “Le Roi” which literally means “the king”.  My boyfriend and I have a couple ideas already, but I want to hear what you guys suggest first!

We don’t really know how old she is. She was a stray that her foster family found… they found her back in September or October. We guessed that she’s less than a year old. She’s been spayed though

Well, since Leroy is like “the king” maybe you should try a name meaning “queen” like Reine, Regina, Dame, or names of famous queens like Cleopatra (like KytKattin said), Victoria, Isabella, Helen, Dido…

Reine – obviously! ie. La Reine, Lareine? I like this as it’s pronounced Rain

Kyra – a variation on Kyros/Kyrie, Greek meaning Lord, Kyra being Lady. Lot’s of variations on this…Kaira, Keira, Kyrah, Kyrie(unisex) etc
Regina
Rani – Hindi
Gloria?

Cleo sounds good with Leroy too Sooo many choices. Can’t wait to hear what you choose.

I think it’s virtually impossible to “leave them for a few days”. Don’t feel bad. I try to justify it by saying a new bun can better acclimate to their surroundings when they are allowed to explore said surroundings! LMAO! It looks like she’s doing great anyways!

There was only one queen in my country’s history, her name’s Wu (family name) Mei’niang(given name, meaning “attractive young lady”). Just as a backup once Cleo will visit China someday.

My daughter thought of a few Japanese names that would mean Queen or royalty like Hime (pronounced hee-may) and also suggested the flower name Peony.
I wanted to suggest perhaps Reinette, since I just saw the episode of Dr. Who last night that focused on Madame De Pompadour.

So many great names. It’s one of the fun parts about a new pet, picking the name. Barbie, you could always try the “let bunny choose name” trick. Put the shortlist names on bits of paper and see which one she picks up… If this worries you because she might not pick “such’n’such” name, then that’s probably your favorite! hehe

Thanks guys! I’m still deciding between Eugénie (Jeannie and Jean-bean for her nicknames!) and Amelia. Problem is, I’ve had to call her SOMETHING all this time and I’ve fallen into the habit of calling her Sweetpea… oops. LOL She doesn’t respond to Sweetpea yet, so it’s not going to be a problem if I change it.

Well, with some rabbits it doesn’t matter what you call them, they don’t respond anyway – she may be like that, a little hard heated LOL! I like Eugenie but it’s a little complicated and if you aren’t going to end up calling her that, then just name her what you would call her (just my opinion). I love the name Amelia because it reminds me of Amelia Earhart and well, who wouldn’t want to have the same name as one of our greatest women explorers.

Be careful what you call her in the mean time! My friends got a puppy and we called him Porter. The owners didn’t like Porter at all, but they fell into calling him that because we did. Guess what? Now his name is Porter. Lol. So watch out what you call her because it just might stick!

I FINALLY picked a name!   Her name is Eugénie! I’ll mostly call her Jeannie, Jeannie Beannie, or (my BF came up with this) Jelly Bean, lol.   So her “fancy” name is Eugénie.

I have to give Jersey credit for suggesting name…..
