It breaks my heart that I have to post again here so soon.
On November 7, we lost our hamster Stevie. Stevie was our first hamster, and she definitely sparked a new love. She taught me more about hamster care and loving a hamster than I ever could have expected. She changed our and many others perception on the nature of hamsters, Stevie’s sweet personality clung to everyone.
She would always stand up on her bridge when you stuck your nose in the cage, and she got tired easily when running on her wheel. When she heard the food jar, she would come out of her house and sniff around until you placed the food bowl in the cage. She never stood still for pictures, but ran everywhere, her little ears flapping as her short legs traversed the ground at an impossible speed for such a small animal. She always liked her toys in the same spots, and would move everything in a clean cage around until it fit her exact specifications. She picked apart her food, leaving the less-yummy pieces. She had the cutest white sock paws, which I only got to see for an instant until she burrowed away.
I miss her so much, and on many occasions have brought a tiny piece of egg or lettuce up only to realize there is no one there to eat it. As much as I never thought I would, I miss the horrible squeaking that her not-so-silent wheel made. Stevie just had the qualities that made you love her. She has a piece of my heart with her at the rainbow bridge.
Run free my sweet little Diva…. Mommy and Daddy miss you so much. xoxoxo
