I am owned by Simba my little lionhead buck. Never in all my life have I been this close to an animal. We adopted him a few months ago from his old house because he snuck into the other bunnies cage and became a daddy. So the other family put him up for adoption.
He is the best guy! We spend so much time together. I work from home full time and he’s always within 30 ft from me. My husband and kids love him very much too.
Yesterday his head looked like he was saying “no” and kind of hopping in circles.
I was so terrified to see such a healthy bunny become helpless. As soon as my hubby came home from work we went straight to the vet.
The vet checked his ears and his ears were 110% clean, no infection & no mites. The vet taught us how to administer shots for him and give him oral meds to treat him for E. Cuniculi. Today after administering his 2nd day of oral meds & a shot only his eyes are going side to side but not even a quarter of how they were yesterday.
I am sooooooo thankful that he seems to be getting better. Such a sweet guy he didn’t even bat an eye when I gave him the shot. He didn’t want to take the oral meds but he did it and I am really proud of him.
Just to be extra super safe I took his condo apart as he is in a cage until he feels better and soaked all the items of his condo in bleach and his flooring too. That way no one else can get this. We clean his cage every day and I think he may have gotten this when we adopted a spayed adult girl lionhead for him she was in a foster house. Her area is next for the major disinfecting. Just love my buns so much I can’t bear to see any harm to them. They own our family
Love
Daygo Mommie
Welcome and thank you for posting Simba’s story. He’s very lucky to have you as his new slave. Good thing you were quick thinking and took him to the vet right away and got him treatment.
Also continued healing vibes to Simba.
I had a lionhead named Simba too, they must inspire it with those fuzzy cheeks. Welcome and good work getting him to the vet. Please keep us updated and here’s healing vibes from me and the furballs
my buns have their ears crossed for good health for all ur buns
he sure is a pretty fellow
is that him in ur avatar?
Yay for catching things early – I’m sure such prompt treatment is most of why he’s improving. Paws crossed for continued improvement!
It’s really common for rabbits to test positive to EC because they’re exposed to it at some point. Much of the time it’s when they’re young and is passed on from the mother.. The neurological effects (like you are seeing) can eventuate long after the parasite initial infection and damage to any organs from when they were younger.
As Wendy said though, getting onto treatment asap is key and it’s good to hear it’s having positive effect for your bunny.
Healing (((Vibes))) to your Simba.
Oh good! It is important to treat symptoms of E.C asap. I am so glad you were able to do this. I”m sending out continued healing vibes in managing this. I know there are several choices for treatment, and whichever one you are using seems to be working well for your guy. What is the name of the meds you are using?
I also had a bunny that suffered from symptoms of e.c (she had hind-leg weakness, not head tilt) so I understand how worrisome it can be.
Your bunny is very lucky to have such a loving family!
Welcome! I’m so glad to hear you have gotten him on some meds and he’s already showing improvement! Keep us posted on how he does!
(((Healing vibes for Simba!)))
Welcome! Glad you were able to get him in so quickly and he’s already showing improvement!

@ wendyzski It was so unlike him and I just knew something was happening it broke my heart when he got sick. As soon as I noticed it I googled. Checked here. Nothing on how to help it so we went straight to the vet.

@ jerseygirl thanks do much for that information. Bunnies are a new venture for us and each day we learn more and more about them. It’s very rewarding. His head tilt and rolling eyes have completely stopped! Yay!!! Plus he get upset at meds time so I know he’s feeling much better!

@ Kokaneeandkahlua Thank you for the caring welcome! Simba is on the mend! Today he was his old self again!
when my pets are ill or acting odd- I feel like I am the one that needs sedation or treatment because I am so freaked out- my husband once tried to tell me that if I did not stop crying and hyperventilating that he was NOT going to drive me and “whichever pet- don’t remember” to the emergency clinic. You can imagine how will THAT statement worked. MEN!!!!
Bahaha Katnip!

I KNOW! I feel the same way. My husband usually tries the “It’s all going to be okay” statement. But I give him the grouchy panicked wife response….”Wha?! What do you know?…..phhsh!” and then I hyperfocus back to whichever bunny is causing concern.
Then Steve responds like this…..![]()
