I have a very sweet male lionshead rabbit. He is a little over seven months old. Most of the time he pees only in his litter box. But he poops everywhere! I will clean out all the poop before I go to bed, and in the morning there is poop everywhere all over his cage! My rabbit has most of the day where I let him out of his cage into the room he is in to run around. And he poops everywhere in there too! I honestly don’t think that bunny poop is gross so that part doesn’t bother me, it just is hard to have to clean it up so much! He will fill up most of his litter tray in one day! He poops in his litter tray, but also everywhere else too! My rabbit isn’t neutered yet. I heard that that might be the reason he is doing it. I’ve looked at a couple of vets but all of them are SOO pricey! I don’t know why my rabbit is pooping everywhere and if I can help stop it! Thanks!

          Welcome simbabunny : )

You’re right, it likely does have a bit to do with his age and being intact. Especially when he poops around in the room.

In his cage, do you use some sort of bedding product to line the cage? This can sometime cause them to use the whole cage like a litterbox.

Does he get hay? Is his hay in his litterbox or place in a rack above the litterbox? This goes a long way to getting most of their poop in the box as they’ll poop the most where they’re eating hay.

Is Simba your only bunny? He’s not marking because of another he can see or smell?

It is a territorial thing that will probably not end until he is neutered. We always joke that un-neutered /spayed rabbits are miniature astronomers trying to map out the constellations LOL
Our female is at that stage right now.
Jerseygirl is right about placing the food bowl inside the litter box. Rabbits poop upwards of 300 times a day and much of it is while they are munching on their food. Simply doing that will cut down on the overall mess.

Thank you for the advice! I will try putting his food into the litter box. And no, i do not use bedding in his cage. I use fleece. He is my only bun. I want to get him neutered. I am trying to find a vet that is reasonably priced!

I think getting him neutered will make a huge difference in his litter habits! Also, what is his litter box like? I often see poops everywhere in the mornings but a lot of that is because they kick poops out when they jump out the litter box. Mine is just a large cat litter box so not particularly high sided. I’m sure that would help contain some poops a bit better.

Mine is a pretty high-sided one and it’s square. Thanks for the advice!
