shortly before christmas my rabbits started living in the house again because it was cold, but after a while, she started getting a drippy eye, as well as being really messy (ie she would go to the toilet all over her cage and manage to get her feet all damp and dirty within a short period of time).

anyway, someone persuaded me that the eye problem was due to her being inside. so both of my rabbits went outside again, but it hasn’t made a difference to her eye or behaviour. she is still going to the toilet all over her cage, and standing in soiled bedding.

i don’t understand what is wrong with her, she has never been very good at grooming herself but it is unusual that she would start acting like this. i have another rabbit who lives in a seperate, adjacent cage, and she has is not like this.

does anyone have a clue what is wrong with her?

I don’t know what is wrong, but I really think you need to take your rabbit to the vet. Do you have a vet you can take her to? It will have absolutely nothing to do with her being inside – I would thoroughly recommend that you bring her back indoors where she will be kept warm and you can monitor her easily.

I agree with grumpybun – first I would bring both rabbits inside and I would definitely take her to a vet. This behavior sounds like she is not feeling well and you need a vet to see her and diagnose her.

thanks for the advice, i will try to bring them inside, but my mum doesnt like to have them inside, and she definatly would not take my word for it that she needs to be inside.
i will take her to the vet this weekend. perhapse if a vet says they need to be inside i can make some progress.

Welcome here. I am perplexed as to why someone would recommend you put a sick rabbit outside where you cannot monitor her continuously, but regardless, definitely bring them both in and have them each evaluated by a vet, including fecal exams.

Be sure to let the vet know that you are meeting with serious resistance from your parents about bringing them in, so that the vet’s support would go a long way to help convince them it is much better for both bunnies. That eye definitely needs to be examined, since it can be caused by something like teeth issues, not just the eye. Hopefully the vet will easily treat the condition, the bunnies will be happier inside, and you can start to work with them on litter training. Be sure to let the vet know about the problem with litter use, too, in case they’re related.
