so my bunny, a 2 year old (approximately), healthy, dutch (possibly mixed, she’s a rescue) rabbit sheds like every other bun. but not nearly as much as the other buns i see online! i use the hair buster and it still doesn’t take much out. when i pet her, some fur sheds off but not much. she does get those little puffs of loose fur that can be pulled out, but only a handful each time she molts! does anyone else have a dutch that doesn’t shed much? or is it just her genes? or am i possibly doing something wrong? thank you!

I think there is variation in rabbit shedding, especially across different fur lengths and textures. Both my rabbits have different fur types/lengths and they molt differently as well. As long as you are vigilant in daily grooming during those more heavy molts and are keeping an eye on stringy-poops, you are probably ok.

You might be a little mistaken on that just based on the fact that some rabbits look absolutely awful when they’re molting. Two of my rabbits still look nice and the 3rd one has ugly lines in his hair due to his coloring and he blows his coat so he constantly has these but mangy looking clumps of hair. I love him but man does he look bad when he sheds. So you might just be noticing it in rabbits with issues like he has and not even noticing it on pictures of some other bunnies who are also in the middle of a molt.

How long have you had her? My buns definitely vary in the way they shed. Some it’s not as noticeable, others look like they got attacked by a weed whacker. Some seem to go through multiple really bad sheds a year, others just 1 really bad one 1 plus other lighter ones.

My bunny seems to be molting, because occasionally when I pull at his tufts of hair to check for loose fur, tons of hair comes out, and when I stroke his back, lots comes off loose. I am a new bunny owner, so I could just be in the calm before the storm, but his sleek fur doesn’t look too bad when he’s shedding, it still looks very nice and smooth, so every rabbit sheds differently.

Dorian’s first couple molts were as you described, and now we are in his summer molt… which seems to be lasting all summer and actually has been heavier. Even then it’s not hugely dramatic, no huge piles of fluff other than the first few days. He has a demarcation line but it’s pretty subtle. Granted he makes up for it by being hugely dramatic when I try and brush or pluck him. Weirdo has also decided I have to sing to him or he will not stay still (I don’t even want to know what my neighbors think when I am on the deck trying to brush him, I can’t sing…). Anyway right now I am jealous of your buns low molts! 😀

Oh one thing I wonder is if he is in a pretty constant climate? I have read you can get more just constant shedding in that case rather than seasonal molts.
