Man stops on highway in the middle of a firestorm to rescue a young wild rabbit. Hero!!!

Ugh. The distress he (the guy) was showing when it ran into the burning area. Amazing he was able to save it.
Also….Crazy that they are that close to the fire and people filming there too.
I was just looking through reports and pics of the LA fires, before coming onto BB.
Just saw it on the news too, so amazing that he managed to save him. He looked so upset when the bunny panicked, I’m very happy that he managed to save him. Hope they’re both okay, but I don’t know if we’ll ever hear the follow-up of the story.
Yayyyy !!!!!!!!! Bunny must have been hurt though to allow the man to catch it…..
i hope we get an update…..
Keep seeing this again and again on FB. What a wonderful man. So hard to see the distress this poor guy was feeling.
Would like an update. I feel sad that there’s a good chance this rabbit would not have survived the stress of being caught and probably put in a car.
The guy probably had no idea where to go or what to do with the bunny. We will probably never know. But I’ll stop being a downer. Maybe he did survive and is doing well.
I saw that on Instagram today! I really hope that the rabbit made it, but regardless, it really warmed my heart that the man was willing to put himself in danger to try and help. He seems like a great guy!
I hope everyone (humans and animals) stay safe with all of those fires going on ❤
Saw this update from someone on The House Rabbit Society’s Facebook page.
**UPDATE** We stopped by the CA Wildlife Center in Calabasas after we left Conejo Valley to make a donation. At CA Wildlife they told us he is in an incubator, calming down from his ordeal and will be evaluated today. If you’d like to make a donation, please go to http://www.cawildlife.org to help their organization. PLEASE SHARE this post! ??
Wild bunny is safe!!! The wonderful people at Conejo Valley Veterinary Hospital took the bun in. It was then taken to California Wildlife Center by a volunteer. I was at the Conejo Vet with my bunny as the wild bunny was being picked up! Thank you to all who made this happen, especially the nice man who saved it and brought to the Conejo Hospital (and yes, a very appropriate name for a pet hospital!) Good luck little bun!
That’s amazing news! And indeed a very appropriate name for a bunny hospital.
Like I said on another forum when I learned about this, somebody buy that man a case of premium craft beer!
Trevor Noah of The Daily Show referenced this guy last night. He said, “If this guy isn’t using this video as his Tinder profile, he’s not serious about life.” LOL.
LPT, I’d love to know the extent of the buns injuries of any. If you get any more updates, would you post them here?
I really needed something like this. The news here of late in the states has been depressing as hell.
Omg yes about the tinder profile comment haha ![]()
For sure, Bladesmith. I’m so sad seeing all the posts, I’m in a lot of FB rabbit groups, and there is so many pics of bunnies being rescued. Some of them in pretty bad shape. All the shelters are overflowing near the fire area.
If all the bunny peeps on my groups (and here) find out who he is, he will forever be hailed a hero!!!! Everyone is wanting to send him cards and gifts! He deserves it!!!!! Makes me feel good to see stories like this…..with all the awful stuff in the news. There are still good ones out there.
Just saw some new info. This 19 year old man claims to be the guy from the video:
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/1…b-enus-580
But this article claims it’s not him:

The story doesn’t add up. Someone trying to become an internet celeb or possibly there were 2 rescues. But you think the guy would know if it wasn’t him in the video or not.

I can’t even start looking at rescued rabbits. After 8 years working as an SPCA investigator, my blood pressure can’t handle it. Seen too much already.
If they ever figure out who he is, he’ll be famous for sure. I can see him being a guest on Ellen, easily. I’d like to shake his hand and but him a drink.
And I take pleasure in knowing most of us would have stood there until our butts were burning to save that bunny.
What a wonderful person!
I so hope this little bun will be ok. So many wild animals must be perishing in those fires.
Another update. Sounds like this is the real guy.

Saw it on Instagram. Made me cry… Both sadness for what’s happening and that poor bun, as well as gladness that there are still good hoomins out there.
Also, for anyone who wants to help, rabbitrescue.ca is coordinating a rescue of wildfire bunnies out of Cali. They desperately need foster homes, so for any of you in Ontario or environs, please contact them (I felt powerless to help due to being here, so I just donated several figures toward the buns’ vet care and supplies).
Here’s a video of the hero being reunited with the bunny he saved:
https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/51230…ire-saved/
Just read an update released today. The bunny is still given a guarded prognosis but she is doing pretty well. They will have to surgically remove the damaged ear tissue and possibly remove a toe.
Seeing the situation through RabbitRescue.ca is absolutely heartbreaking. They are a wonderful rescue. I’ve donated several times in the past.
