I just got a 2 month old holland lop. I’m trying to litter box train her. She caught on pretty quickly for going #1 (although she did have problems going in her soft bed.. I decided to take it away until she’s trained because I thought the soft surface was confusing her. She wasn’t pleased lol) but she tends to go #2 anywhere and everywhere. She hasn’t picked a favorite spot to “go” like most things I’ve read say they do.

        Two parts to my question:

        1) How can I litter train her when she goes anywhere she wants, not just a specific corner? I’ve been picking up her poop and putting it in the box but she isn’t really catching on.

        2) How can I let her out of her cage for exercise yet not pick her up to put her back when I need to leave for work/class? Is she going to hate me or be afraid of me because I picked her up? Right now she’s sitting with her back towards me because I shooed her out from under my bed and picked her up to put her in her cage. (She made a huge mess under there since she’s not litter trained.)

          1) she’s going to honestly be pooping everywhere until she’s spayed. The only thing you can really do is keep doing what you’re doing and trying to set a good foundation. Picking up poops and putting them in the box, and you can have her hay in the box so poops there, as most bunnies poop and eat at the same time. But for the most part, it’s territorial and it should go away when she’s spayed.

          2) Can you leave her cage on the ground and open it when it’s time for her to come out? Bunnies really don’t enjoy being picked up, and if they flail too violently they can break their spines or even a leg. As she is so new to you she’s also probably scared by the new hoomin picking her up. If you can’t keep the cage on the floor, the best thing is to transport her via her litter box.

              1) For the pooping, put some hay in or above the litter box, and if you catch her pooping in the box reward her!
Asriel and Bombur said she wouldn’t poop in her litter box until spayed, but that’s not really true, as Magpie isn’t spayed and rarely misses. But I would definetly spay her unless she has a breeding future!
              2) You could leave the cage open like A&B recommended, or you could very gently wrap a blanket around her and place her down on the floor!
