Bella is her name and she is adorable! She is so tiny as she is only a couple of months old. She is a butterscotch color with white (of course). She likes to play and she isn’t afraid of me! She loves to be petted. I will have to get some pics of her. I can already tell she is going to be like having another toddler in the house. lol She is so curious, always standing on her back legs to see what going on. She is a jumper too!  And she eats hay like it was her last meal…I think this is her first time trying it. She loves it! I am just soooo happy with my Baxter and Bella…housed seperately of course

Okay, she just rearranged her entire cage and now with the little but of room she has left herself, she is doing binkies! I’ve never seen this (only on you tube). This is so cool. Maybe she will liven up Baxter.

Thanks! She is funny too! I’m supposed to be cleaning my house right now but every time I look at her she is begging to be let out of her cage. Poor girl. I will have to get her a pen. Do you know where I can find an xpen? I think they may be a little bigger than what I have. My pen is only 8 panels. I think the xpens are 11 panels.

Congrats! She’s gorgeous but looks like trouble! haha. She and Baxter will make a cute pair.
I read in another thread that Baxter & her met and there was some mounting…How certain are you of her age? I’m being over cautious perhaps, but they can have their own offspring sooo young.

Nibbles, we got our 8-panel off Amazon for a really good price, as they can get extremely pricey at the pet stores. I think that ours was made by a company called Marshall’s? You can get extra panels to add if you want. But the 8 panel around Lemony’s cage actually still gives him a good amount of space.

Craigslist sounds like a good idea.

                                                Congrats on the new addition!

Jersey, I am not sure of her age but she is really small. Her genitals aren’t even fully developed. I know it sounds wierd but they look like they are still developing. To be honest, I’m not 100% that SHE is a SHE! From what I can see, she is a girl. The lady at the pet store said she looked like a girl too (but what do they know?) Baxter is twice her size! I think he just may be ready to be neutered. I can tell he is maturing. His scent gland smells pretty bad! Even after I use a warm q tip on it. YUK! I heard that it could be a dominence thing but he walked up to her, sniffed her bottom and it was like he instantly realized she was female and he went for it! I have never seen anything like it. It was shocking! It didn’t seem like her was trying to prove he was in charge. Honestly, I think he was horny (excuse my language). Time to get him neutered? He hasn’t acted different since. His pen is right by her cage and he carries on like she isn’t even there.

Usagi, how good of a price? I got mine for $40 at Petsmart. It’s an 8 panel. I need another one for Bella. Well, I want a bigger one to give Baxter and give Bella the 8 panel. I definetly would love to buy extra panels for them! Could be so much cheeper that way! I was also thinking about getting some rabbit wire fencing and just framing it with wood for a more permanent set up and using the play yard when they play outside and when it’s time to bond them. That way, it won’t be familier territory (when they bond). So many ideas…. Oh, and I did check Craigslist, they have smaller cages but no play yards.

Well holy prego bunnies, that is NOT good.  How old is the female?  Rabbits are known to have babies at early as 3 months (12 weeks).  Keep those bunnies apart at all costs or you are going to have even more problems than you ever bargained for.  It literally takes SECONDS for a pregnancy to happen. Don’t put them together anymore.

Nibblez, $40 sounds about right, but we also had to pay for shipping (but they also had the option of extra panels).  So it sounds like you got a good deal!  I think your plan with the permanent structure sounds awesome, and that bringing them outside to the playpen would be a good, neutral space to have them bond in (of course, I’m sure you know this, but no treated grass or poisonous plants).

Ummm… Nibblez, I hate to say this, but is it possible that ur lil girl might already be preggers?  Especially if she was previously housed with males while at the pet store?  From stories I have heard it sounds like this happens often, but don’t freak out, she’s probably fine.  Sounds like a checkup would be a good idea, just to calm any suspicions and what not.  Just as a precaution!  And, she might but be a he anyway, so no worries.

$58 sounds about right if you have an really good exotic pet vet… That’s around what Chicago Exotics charged for an initial examination.  The first time we took him in, about a week or so after he came home, it turned out that he had an upper respiratory infection that he got at the pet store (more money for meds).  His neuter was somewhere around $230 – we thought it was a lot, but then when it actually came to it, we were so glad that we had saved up to take him there instead of the clinic.  The price included aethesia, pain meds, the surgery itself, an overnight stay, and a post-op appointment.  And they also didn’t charge us extra when he chewed out his stitches and had to go under all over again… Poor baby.  I think that spaying is more expensive, as it is more invasive.

I don’t think she could be pregnant. I stopped Baxter as soon as I saw him charge for her. I knew what he was up to I was sitting right next to them. She is like 1.5 lbs. Maybe 2 . She is very young I don’t even think she is 2 months yet. The pet store just got her and I think they get them around 7 weeks. Even looking at her private parts. She doesn’t at all look mature. But I guess you never know. They are housed seperate and cannot at all come in contact with eachother. I am taking every precaution. I am not worred about her being pregnant. Atleast not unless she starts packing on the pounds quickly. If she was pregnant when I got her, I will just have to deal with it. I have a bunny room and eventually we will move into a larger house. My mother in law is an animal lover too and loves bunnies. I HOPE it doesn’t come to that but if I bought a pregnant bun than I am going to have a heart about it.
