So, I’ve been reading little things here and there about ‘junk food’ in pellets and how i should just feed pellets….well the food i have is full of that ‘junk food’ and I didn’t realize it was a bad thing when I bought it. I have almost two full bags of it. Would it be okay to feed it to Boston till I run out and then buy better stuff?

are they still in the bag? you can maybe return one bag, get the right food, and then mix it in with the junk little bit by little bit until he’s switched over.

How about just trying to pick out the junky stuff – the dried fruit, nuts and other unidentifyables? The pellets themselves should still be safe enough to eat….

I would try to return it. If you bought it from Petsmart or Petco, they’ll take it back even though it’s open. Just say that your bun wont it eat.
If you cant return it, I would buy a bag of “good pelllets” and mix the two. Or use it as treats.

Ooh dam what a pain!  Hope the store can give you a credit … maybe do a swapsie for a bag of pellets and pay the difference.

I wouldn’t keep feeding that stuff to your rabbit.  I would get a really good timothy based pellet like from Oxbow.  Who knows what other crap they have put in that bad one.

I agree with Knowltons4 – it’s not worth using this stuff. If you can’t get credit for it, put it out for the birds or squirrels – not sure if they will eat it or not, but if they will it won’t go to waste.

Me too. Stores might give you a merchandise exchange for it instead of your money back. You could shop for other things too while buying Oxbow elsewhere. Get stocked up on litter…or toys…or a new carrier….or another litter pan for outside the cage….somebody stop me!

yes – I’d likely try to exchange it if possible! Even if the store doesn’t sell a healthier alternative, you might be able to get some litter there.

As Beka mentioned, you’ll want to take at least 2 weeks to slowly transition Boston over to healthy food. Each day you’ll gradually give him less junk food and more of the healthier one. Be prepared for bunny protesting, since the junk foods tend to taste better to bunnies.
