I was just coming online to post that Maryann seems to be indicating an earthquake was on it’s way but before I could begin typing, it hit.   Don’t worry, it was just a little shaker but DANG, I really do think that there is MUCH more to my bun than she’s letting on…

Is that a bunny instinct or a special skill of Maryanns? How do the buns cope with the tremors? Be difficult to keep them calm I imagine – guess it’s over so quick there’s not chance to even try!

I’ve read before that house rabbits in CA seem to be able to tell when an earthquake is coming and will start thumping!

=P That’s animals for ya! Don’t forget that they found VERY few dead animals after the big tsunami besides ones that were trapped and fish.

                  They knowwww..

It’s one of those things a dad knows about their kid. If she thumps more than once in the condo with no apparent reason (i.e. – has food, water and nothing scarey nearby) an earthquake is coming.

When I got hit with a 6+ earthquake once, Maryann was absolutely crazy in her cage.  It was 3am so I leaned over to comfort her and apparently she freaked so bad she actually FORCED herself through the spaces between the cage panels – tearing apart the connectors.  She then proceeded to hop around the house, scouting every corner to make sure things were OK then let me pick her up and put her back into her cage.

Yeah, Maryann is special.  I am wondering just what I would learn or how much she’d bloom if I actually had the time to spend with her…

No, I had another rabbit named Lazer, a netherland dwarf, almost 20 years ago.  It was an impulse buy from my girlfriend in college and she gave it to me.  Unfortunately, I didn’t know anything about rabbits.  She was never altered, when she made noise at night, I would try to dicipline her as a dog, she stayed 99% of the time in her cage, etc.  And in return for my ‘kind and generous nature’, she would pee everywhere, especially the pillow on my bed.  It was her lifetime goal to pee on my pillow as often as possible.  She LOVED my roommate but hated me.  She only lived 4 years.

I didn’t get another bun for so long because I didn’t feel that I was good enough for a pet.  Then when my girlfriend of 2 years moved away half a decade ago, I thought that I could use someone in my life.  First, I read up on everything I could about buns and realized ALL The mistakes I made and tried my best not to make them with Maryann.  So far, I think that I have done a good job and if there’s a rainbow bridge, I hope that Lazer knows that I did love her, just didn’t know what to do, and is approving of what I am doing now.

Wow, Markus, I had no idea either that you’d had another bunny. I am sure Lazer knows what a great bun dad you are. They are amazingly forgiving creatures, aren’t they? At least, I hope they are, considering all the horrible mistakes I’ve made with my buns.

Markus – think of it this way – If Lazer did not know that you loved her – she would not have sent Maryann to you!

i see. you might have mentioned Lazer before but i didn’t remember. i feel the same way about my first bunny. i made every mistake i possibly could… but i learned from that, and corrected as i went along. i was doing most everything right by the time he passed away, and i know he was a happy bunny. we’re all only human.
