So….I must make owning a bunny look glamorous or something hehe…..It was my good friend’s birthday this weekend and her boyfriend got her, you guessed it-a bunny!! Oh my gosh it’s soo cute!! I went over to meet the bunny (Coco-named by her daughter) and sex it. Coco is a wittle boy and I think he looks a lot like Mimzmum’s Mimzy! Very cute and gorgeous coloring…Almost like a dark siameze color…Anyways what a relaxed baby!! It flopped on me while I was holding him and my friend said he napped on her on Sunday (the day she got him)-lucky girl! My first bun was a complete terror at first LOL. Anyways I showed her this site and rabbit.org and I think she’s well on her way to becoming a slave…Hopefully she joins the forum soon!!

I love recruiting people where rabbits are concerned!! unfortunately rabbits still aren’t seen as house pets here with a few exceptions, but four of my friends are now house bunny slaves.

Yeah bunny-recruits! Everyone who would make a good pet owner should adopt a bunny, I think. Then all the shelter bunnies would be saved! Since technically bunnies (and everything else) is not allowed at my college, I don’t ever get to convince people to buy bunnies… but it’s just as nice being able to convince people of what terrific pets they are. n__n Just the other day I ended up practically giving a lecture to a group of people in my adolescent psych class because one of the girls said something about not liking bunnies… and of course, I took that as a personal offense and figured out that she thought they were “stinky” because she had only ever met poorly-cared-for hutch bunnies. I cleared up her misconceptions and got to explain the joys of bunny ownership to a bunch of people. (Who by the end adamantly agreed with me that Easter Bunny sales are despicable.)

But Charlie, it’s really no better here. I live in Massacusetts, which is considered a very liberal and intelligent state, and even here most people consider bunnies “children’s pets” that are very little work and only live for a few years. At least around here most people don’t *eat* them. o___o

I know what you guys mean, I live in a little czech town and really hate it with older people come to visit and make a point of feeling my buns up to see if they’re ready to eat yet! Rabbit is evidently a popular dish around here and I get rather touchy about it.

Next time I’ll point them to the lovely Pringles, she’ll take their hand off if they tickle her just right!

My mother grew to love my rabbit and became a big advocate for bunnies as pets for adults. She’s got a bridge game once a week, and all her game friends would ask her how her grandbunny was. (They were very concerned when he was sick and sent lots of heartfelt messages later.)
My Dad was amazed at what great pets bunnies turned out to be.

It was the same with my mom. n__n We both have really bad allergies (particularly her), and the spring and summer of ’07 we were looking for a hypoallergenic cat… and somehow stumbled across a hypoallergenic bunny. She was kind of iffy about the idea at first because I’m at college and if someone happened and I got caught she’d have to take care of him, but she totally fell in love with him and at the beginning of this year one week after I left Monty home (I can’t fit both animals in my car at once, so sometimes I leave either a bunny or the chin home) she pretty much told me I wasn’t getting him back. >___< She did get me another bunny, but still. She's a theif. My grandmother really wants one now, too! When Monty was having trouble with his teeth two weeks ago everyone I know was worried for him. Once people get to know bunnies, then tend to decide that they're excellent animals. n__n

its such a shame that they are so misunderstood

It would be a huge step in the right direction if more people understood what “house rabbits” are.  Most of those later unwanted Easter bunny would become cherished members of the household!

Everyone is always surprised when I tell people that Cotton is mostly littertrained (she is young yet), that she loves to cuddle when I watch TV, that she begs for treats and that she gives kisses and licks my chin.  Most people don’t understand that they are trainable and can learn vocal commands- name, “no”, etc.
