Well apparently, the genius thought it would be a good idea to let the buns play while I was at work.

Tonight, I went to go check on them before bed and noticed that Bon-Bon had white fur all over her cage. Confused and concerned, I got closer to check if she was stressed and pulling it out. Nope, there were 5 moving,  don;tvery much alive baby buns in there.

Of course, I called him in and asked him if he knew anything about this…and that’s when he fessed up. I want to beat him. Ok, not really. I think I have a right to be mad but he doesn’t understand. “Well, you wanted more rabbits, didn’t you?”  Yeeea, but not like this.

I went right into bunny momma mode and checked all the bellies and made sure they were staying warm. I checked momma over and she’s doing good as well. She cleaned them off really well and stays pretty close to them.

I haven’t had the chance to think of names, yet..but that will probably come later. I was thinking of getting a little scale to try to weigh them all….but I’m not sure how I’d keep track of which one is which…they all are mostly black (skin, not fur) but one looks pink. He’s the one I’m worried about because he’s a bit smaller. I’m keeping an eye on him to help him catch up. It’s possible he was just the last born.

So I know you guys don’t know much about baby care…but I was hoping you could direct me to some resources…

I’ll post updates and pictures later (when they’re a bit older) if you guys want…and I may be asking for names for these little buggers.

Oh, no! I would be upset too! But glad to hear all the babes are doing well.

You can check out RabbitsOnline.net. They allow the topic of intentional breeding and you will find many knowledgeable members there.

Are you planning on spaying Mama? And keeping all the babies?

Well, I don’t have the room for 8 rabbits, 2 cats and a dog so I’ll likely find good homes for the babies.

Judging by the coloring on the “runt” it’ll be a dutch, the rest are solid colored. The runt is catching up and looked like a swollen tick last night when I checked on him. Peach fuzz is growing nicely and they are very lively little buggers.

I was going to make a joke here, but as there are kids here under the age of 40 I won’t bother

I have seen for myself babies born and their mum and dad have white skin and a baby can have black skin and brothers and sisters have white skin and vise versa, and no one went to see the lady when the man was at work, twins can be both black and white, triplets and quadruplets, it could be similar to that.

Good luck with your new babies.

I figured since Todd is a REW that it’s hiding whatever his parents were and for all I know his parents could have been black rabbits.

Genetics are a funny thing which I find I’m really fascinated with these days.
