Hello! I have been a bunny owner for almost 4 years now. My bunny’s name is Boo.

Boo is definitely a character and has become more of one since I’ve been away for school. (Before anyone asks, yes I am working diligently on getting my rabbit to live with me here.)

I went home recently for a vet appointment for Boo (preparing for neutering) and he was unusually excited to see me and be in my arms. Mind you, Boo does not like to be picked up and we often have to tussle to get him back into his home or even into his carrier for our recent vet visits.

This time, Boo was doing a lot of purring and digging his face into my chin area and sort of rubbing his face against my lower face.

Now, my face has broken out like never before! For as long as I’ve had Boo, I’ve never broken out from any of his skin to face contact, and those are very minimal!

Has anyone else had any encounters like this? If so, what products should help clear up some of this sudden breakout because my usual isn’t working so well 😓. I would hate to stop any affection towards my rabbit if his fur/dandruff, etc is the cause of my breakout or is a common cause of skin irritation in general.

        Thanks in advance,

        Boo’s Mom

Hmm I’ve never had any issues with my buns. Mind you, my acne is pretty bad in general, but the buns have by no means made it any worse. I kiss Esther’s head, and nuzzle her with my face (kinda weird but it makes her so happy lol).

Haven’t been able to find it for sale near me recently, but there was this face wash I had that worked WONDERFULLY for my acne, pretty much cleared it. Ran out and haven’t been able to get more unfortunately 🙁 . I’ll rummage around my drawers and see if I can find the empty container. I’ll let you know if I can.

I would really appreciate that! Thank you for taking the time to share your advice. I’m hoping it’ll clear up by this weekend but if not hopefully the product will help out since I feel like my usuals aren’t doing anything.

I have a similar experience, and it tends to come and go. Some days all it takes is a lick on the face, other days nothing happens. I am also someone who fluctuates when dog and cat saliva irritate my skin as well, so it could be something that resolves on its own.

I’m allergic to rabbits. Hahaha! And yes, it is most definitely a rabbit allergy… tests confirmed it. The miracle of allergy shots, right? Anyway, I don’t think I will be of much help here.

So when you say break out, do you mean acne or a rash? I will sometimes get a rash, but it isn’t consistent. I’m not sure why that is… perhaps it’s recently groomed (licked) fur vs. not recently groomed fur? It’s weird, that’s for sure.

I’m hoping it’ll clear up on its own especially since it’s never happened to me before.

And when I say break out, I’ll describe it as more of a rash. It’s not red or irritated, but it’s extra bumpy and extremely dry. It happened practically over night, so that’s what I’m worried about!

                    That’s very odd!

Are you allergic to anything else? Because of the timing with the vet, I’m wondering if maybe the vet’s office had traces of something that transferred to him while they were examining him? Like maybe even the type of hand sanitizer they use, or latex gloves, etc?  If  hydrocortisone or an antihistamine helps that would suggest it’s an allergic reaction to something.

Hmm, what you’re describing sounds like eczema to me. It can be triggered by all sorts of things including detergents, cold air, and stress.

If it is eczema, my product wouldn’t help, and I couldn’t find it either unfortunately. I have a friend who has really really bad eczema, all kinds of things cause flares for her, clothing materials, latex, a lot of the ingredients in most makeup. Its gotten better for her in recent years, after some treatments and cutting out certain things. Has this happened before? If you could, seeing a dermatologist might help, they can pinpoint what things cause it for you.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply!

My face is pretty much cleared up now. I will definitely look into eczema being a possible factor. I haven’t experienced/had eczema since I was in elementary and I never had an issue with it like my siblings do. But if it’s possible for it to come and go, I’ll definitely look into that.
I’ll also make sure Boo is wiped down just in case anything they used to sanitize him with might’ve broke me out (that very well could be a cause since he smelled heavily drenched in alcohol/rubbing alcohol lol)

                          Thank you all again!

That happens to me aswell and I’m allergic to guinea pigs and timothy hay and cats so it’s a possibility I could be allergic to rabbits and thats what caused it
