        Not good.

I now live 15 minutes outside the city in the country. I use my car for everything; especially for horse things. And in getting my property ready for a horse – well, let’s just say having a wagon really comes in handy.

So I’m at work; go on my lunch break, get in my car and start it. Put it into drive and suddenly the shifter goes flying back with no tension on it. Oh no. I put it into park. Car rolls FORWARD. I pull the handbrake up and go, “OMG…What the @(*# is going on?” try it again, nothing. Stop the car, run inside and say ‘Something’s wrong with my car!!!’ My coworker came out and now the car won’t start! Why? Because it thinks it’s in drive and they don’t start in drive!!!

So I run inside and make 34934204 phone calls, of course NO places can come fix my car, the Subaru dealer can’t get me in till Wednesday, and the f-ing rental car company demands an arm and a freaking leg.

Anyway, so I am panicking all afternoon (tomorrow is my only day off all week and I was supposed to get hay and fenceposts) and so I had to have my friend drive me home, so now I sit here stranded in the country…she is going to take me back in tomorrow morning to get the rental car, but that costs soooo much, plus when I finally have my car fixed…….augh.

I am just freaking out. Day from hell…just completely freaking out. I had no no no idea how much I relied on my car.

Can’t even go see the bloody horses………

Have you called your own car insurance company? Many policies throw in a rental car for use if your car is out of commission. I don’t think it necessarily is limited to when you’ve had an accident. If you’re stuck at home anyway it might be worth a phone call just to see.

LL that bites! Do you have some type of Auto Club in Canada? Here in the states we have AAA and they will come, tow the car, get discounted rentals etc. The BF’s mechanical knowledge extends to check the oil and fill the tank. AAA has save our behinds on several occasions.

oh thank goodness you have some wheels!  i get panicky when i don’t have wheels & it cracks me up a little since i live in the city & not very far from amenities on foot.  plus there’s public transit.  but still, i’m so used to having the option to go where ever when ever that i still some how feel stranded without a car.  how spoiled am i?  lol.  now, living outside of town like you do would make all of that feeling a whole lot more valid!
