I was vacuuming yesterday and started to smell something burning. Apparently, smoke was coming out of my vacuum!!  I took it apart to fix it, but apparently, a hay was stuck where the wheel is.  I guess that’s how it got hot and eventually burned.    So the whole thing overheated and got fried.

It’s un-repair-able so I got to buy a new one now.  May my vacuum rest in peace.

I hate to say it but the best vacuum for buns is a wet/dry vac (also known as a shop vac). They have a nice wide hose and power. I got one for $70 that was 5HP but there’s plenty of 2.5’s that would work for under $40.

With dogs, cats and bun, I swiffer the house first and then vacuum. Otherwise I would have to change the bag everytime. I tried the bagless vacs but is a disaster with pet hair.

As much as I hate dissposable cleaning products, I would be lost without swifers.

Oh yeah to swiffers!!! With hardwood floors that’s what I use first and then vacuum. Those bagless ones are a pain. You’d think they would be great but it’s more work to clean the filter! I love my Oreck!

We love our Roomba. We don’t use it as often as we should, but for a while we were letting it run every day. And then we needed a new battery for it and fell out of the habit – oops! Both Ringo and Sierra have managed to accidently start the roomba by walking over it when it’s in its base, which is kind of funny but also kind of annoying because it usually happens in the middle of the night. The last time we ran the Roomba I believe Scooter said that it actually bumped into one or two of the bunnies (who were out of their enclosure at the time). Didn’t do any harm to them, and they weren’t at all afraid of it.

Another very useful item that we’ve picked up is both the Little Green Machine area cleaner for rugs and upholstery, and the larger overall carpet cleaner. Both very handy for getting rid of the pet smell from carpets.

haha mine caught on fire too! Well not fire, but smoking and gross…Luckily Dave was able to fix it…I wish we could have a real shop vac (we are in an apartment) I bought a small one, and it’s only good for getting pet spots out of carpet, it gets clogged with hay in about three seconds.

With all the hay, I clean all the filters on my bagless once a week to keep it performing. So far…so good

I have forgotten to unplug the shop vac and the cats have stepped on it in the middle of the night and turned it on.  I bet that was more then they bargained for.  But being woken up at 2am by the vacuum is no fun for me either.  Now I make sure to umplug when I am done.

We have 3 vacuums total- a shop vac, a Dirt Devil and a Dyson.  Both the shop vac and the Dirt devil get clogged- drives me crazy.  I try not to use the Dyson too much for hay or other unusual pet jobs (birdseed, etc)- it is new and I don’t want to wreck it.  It does an AWESOME job on carpet.  ( we have 4 levels on our house- so it is nive to have more than 1 vacuum).

I have a Roomba but it’s useless for me. One of the hays that I feed them is oat hay. Since oat hays are thicker , Roomba wont do it. I cant even broom first since it’s all carpet.
