Is it a full-moon or something? My buns are CRAZY today! (This is a long silly story, that you may skip without missing out on much, if you like.)
I woke up at 4:30am being stressed about some paperwork I had due, and gave up trying to go back to sleep, and got up. The buns were lying around in their pen not doing much.
Next thing I know, I hear bunny-running noises (you know the ones I mean!), and go check on them, and Lizzy’s doing Bunny-500’s in her pen…which means navigating around the hutch-ramp, flying through the litter box (hay and litter flying everywhere…), scrambling OVER the willow tent, and slamming into the pen itself…repeatedly! The second she saw me, she stopped, and feigned innocence (“Who me? I was just…eating some hay! Yeah, that’s it!”). And then I’d go back to work, and she’d start all over again. Psycho bunny!
So I let her out to romp around the living room. (I left Robbie locked up. He requires more supervision, and I was TRYING to work!)
Now, Miss Lizzy has not jumped on the sofa since the first day I let her in the living room. She’ll bounce on and off of the loveseat, which is EXACTLY the same, but she has REFUSED to go near the sofa. I don’t understand it at all. But Robbie not only loves jumping around on the sofa, he jumps all the way up on the back of the sofa so he can be higher than everything else.
So this morning, Lizzy sat there for several minutes staring at the sofa. And pacing back and forth. And staring. And then she JUMPED! And she was on the sofa! But that wasn’t good enough for Miss Lizzy, who wanted to go up more, because Robbie does it, so she has to, too! So she paced back and forth on the sofa (which, of course, entails bouncing over me, repeatedly, while I was TRYING to work.), put her front feet on the armrest, chickened out, paced some more… Lizzy is a TERRIBLE jumper. She’s no good at judging height, her balance is not great, and she’s a KLUTZ. But after a few more minutes…POP! And she’s on the back of the sofa. Looking very pleased with herself! I told her, “You be careful! You know you’re a clumsy bunny!” She sneered at me for doubting her, and decided to give the blinds and curtains a good sniff…and lost her balance. Wild flailing, bunny claws scrambling, and I had to catch her before she fell off the back of the couch–which probably would have meant catching the curtains on the way, probably pulling the curtain rod down, and then being squished between the wall and the sofa! I successfully saved her from imminent doom, and of course, received a foot-flick for my efforts!
Meanwhile, back in the pen, Robbie had decided that the willow tent, which they haven’t touched since I bought it (except to hide under), needed to be destroyed NOW, and reduced a whole corner to a pile of sticks.
I decided Miss Lizzy was in WAY too distracting a mood, and I REALLY had to get my work done, so I shooed her home.
All was quiet for a few minutes. Then I heard some scuffling. Went to check it out, and Robbie was humping Miss Lizzy. And she was tolerating it. He hasn’t tried to do that in DAYS…that I knew of, anyway. And she has NEVER tolerated it! So he goes at it for awhile. And she puts up with it. And he takes a break. And she just lays there. And he starts again. Etc, etc for like 5 minutes!
I was a little shocked at this, so I opened the pen door so she could run away if she wanted. She showed no particular interest in doing so, but whatever. A moment later, out they both hop. Trouble times 2.
I’m still trying to work. Lizzy is so pleased that she can now hop on the couch, that she does a flying-binky at the sofa–and crashes into me! Splat. Of course, I have to coo over her and pet her, poor thing. And she decides, “good deal! I get pets if I’m up here!” So she assumes meatloaf position, and demands more pets. And I want her to be a couch-bunny so I don’t have to sit on the floor all the darned time, so of course I’m going to encourage her, so now I’m petting her with the left-hand, and pecking out words on the computer 1 letter at a time with the right.
Robbie decides he’s missing out on something, so up he comes. Now I have a bunny on either side, and I have to pet them both, and they’re unbearably CUTE, but I have to WORK! So I tell them to go entertain themselves, and get back to work. Next thing I know, they’re BOTH on the back of the sofa, and this is NOT going to end well!, so I shoo them down.
Lizzy decides to resume Bunny 500’s around the coffee table, so I and my laptop are now in the way. I gather up the laptop and put it on my lap so she has room to run without me looming in the way. But, she decides to celebrate her last lap by doing ANOTHER flying binky onto the sofa, toward me…notices the laptop in the way mid-leap…does a contortionist act…slides ACROSS the keyboard, somehow without damaging it…and skids off onto the floor.
Sheesh.
Robbie, meanwhile, is licking the pillows. He does that. Licks the pillows on the sofa. Will just sit there licking for 10 minutes at a time until they’re SODDEN. Doesn’t lick the sofa. Doesn’t lick the pillows on the loveseat. Just the ones on the sofa, for some reason. It’s really weird. And I don’t even touch the pillows anymore because they’re covered in bunny slobber, and I only keep them for Robbie to lick. I’m going to have to buy new people-pillows, and trade out sets when the bunnies are out!
So Lizzy sees Robbie up on the sofa, and decides to give it one more try. She successfully jumps onto the couch. And hops over to the pillows, and SHE starts licking! So now I have a bun on EACH SIDE, both lick-lick-licking pillows.
Then the neighbor’s gardeners start up the lawn mower next door, make a huge noise, startle the buns, and off they streak. They run in circles around the coffee table, seeming to have forgotten which direction “home” was. They finally run in the right direction, and Lizzy, or course, crashes into the pen as she leaps into it.

Sigh. My buns are nutty today. Or maybe they’re always insane from 5am-8am, and I just normally miss it…
Oh
My
Goodness
!!!
I’m going home to tell my bunnies WHAT GOOD BUNNIES THEY ARE!!!!
OMG, that’s like the bunny twilight zone!
how can you have BUNNIES for pets?! bunnies are boring. all they do is sit there…
uh, yeah. right.
that’s an awesome story. i loved reading it! it’s funny when they figure out they can do something and then that’s all they ever want to do… you can actually see their little minds working…
i had a similar experience with the willow tent… for weeks they were sitting under it, no chewing at all.
and then all of a sudden:
Max: i love our tent, Meadow Darling.
Mead: oh i do too Max!!! i love to lay down underneath it… next to yoooouuuuu…
*bunny snuggling*
Mead: you know what? this tent smells like our toys.
Max: *sits up* what dear? what did you say?
Mead: i said, it smell like our toys, you know, the balls and candy canes the tall lady gives us?
Max: you know? it kinda does… but we EAT those toys.
Mead: do you think we could eat this tent?
Max: hmmm. maybe… why don’t you try…
Mead: no… you go first… you’ll eat anything.
Max: ha, well you got me there!
*chomp!*
Max: mmm… it’s really good, like our toys, but BIGGER!
both: *numnumnumnum….*
so now every morning i get woken up by them gnawing the heck outta the tent. now it has skylights…
Aaw, they’re a fussy middle class bunny couple. hehehe “what dear? what did you say? “
ROFLMAO!
What an adventurous group.
Today Cotton has been jumpy and skittish. Hubby and I cleaned n cleaned I mean everything. Took the a/c’s apart cleaned and demolded them washed vacuumed etc. Next was their litterboxes. Then the floors then the kitchen counters Ahhh oh now up go some new curtains. Change of scenery you know.
I suppose we were more affected than the bunnies. OH my. I finally caught Cotton held him and calmed him down. All this cleaning just stressed him right out. Now as long as he is with Ruby he is fine. But when she goes somewheres else he gets all nervous. He has turned out to be needy bun. They are all calm now. enjoying greens.
Your buns though sounds very adventurous. Racing about. And girly bun got brave. Ruby did that the other day. She discovered she can climb onto the couch. She is leary of jumping. Once she discovered she could do that she did it over n over. I think she is over it now.
BTW, I mentioned on a different post tonight that yes, it IS a full moon.
I think they’re just celebrating Columbus Day, bunny style.
lol… so much for getting work done huh? very cute story ![]()
Agreed, they are acting crazy today…I really enjoyed reading that story, lizzie is such a character-skidding accross the keyboard!! Chucks been actually VERY active today and Rupert and Kahlua have taken to hanging out in our bedroom almost 23H a day recently-silly bunnies! Definitely not boring though!! LOL
I’m waiting till my two realize they can jump up on the papasan chairs. Then it is all over! ![]()
I think the cooler weather has really affected Kay & Winston.
This morning Kay wanted pets, Winston wanted to play. So, I’m petting Kay while Winston is running back and forth between me and Kay under my arm – because, you know, it’s a tunnel! ![]()
I didn’t think it was possible for him to be even goofier – But I was wrong.
