I have two bunnies who have been separated until they are spayed. We are keeping one in the normal cage and the other in a dog crate. The crate is too small but its the only place I could put her. She has been out of the crate for a few hours this morning and a few hours this evening. I put a litter box in the cage but she had hardly pooped in there. When I take the rabbits out of their cages I let them run around the bathroom since its a good size. Both times I took her out of the cage and set her in the bathroom she immediately peed and pooped. She pooped three times in the last fifteen minutes. What should I do?

There’s nothing you can do. Those are territorial poops, and they likely won’t go away until they are bonded. I should know, I have mountains of them to clean every night.

It probably is territorial poops like A&B says, but you should also put a litter box in the bathroom – in fact it might even be good if they share a litter box in the bathroom, to help them get used to each others smells.

So they have been sharing a litter box in the bathroom but Cocoa still does it. Lily doesn’t at all. We have been switching the cages every night so they don’t become territorial. Should we continue doing that? One cage is also pretty small. Is there any way to get her to stop?

She did this same thing in the living room. I put her in the bathroom so I could clean the living room and she did this again

I’m sorry, but while they’re not bonded territorial poops are just going to happen. Having a litter box helps to direct some to the litter box, but they’re trying to mark territory. You just have to get used to sweeping up poops for a while

It’s true. Until you have wonderfully bonded bunnies, territorial poops are the norm.

okay. We called the breeder and she told us to find a vet that isn’t in the city, but is a little further out. They are $200 less expensive than the ones really close to me

After they have been spayed do I have to bond them again? How long do I need to wait? Thank you

                            Hi Cocoa,

After they have been spayed you’ll need to give them at least two weeks to physically recover, then another 4 weeks (but it can take more or less, depending on the bunnies) for their hormones to drain, before you can start bonding them again. You will need to bond them, you can’t just put them together.

You can spend the month while you wait prebonding them, then introduce them somewhere neutral. If you head over to the bonding forum, you’ll be able to read some other people’s bonding experiences.
