It seems my Holland Dwarf is staying hungry more often.  I have owned her for 3 yrs now and in the last couple of months, I have noted she is begging much more for food.   Before, she would eat and then relax awhile … then go eat and then stretch out by me and relax.   Now, she seems to be constantly running around looking for food.   Lately,  I don’t see her relaxing as often.    She does, though,  take a very long nap each day from 8am to approx 1pm.   This has been her routine always.

Her name is Bonnie Lee.   Bonnie is a full time free range bun.   She is a great house rabbit and does not chew on things …. so this is why she is a full time free range bun.     I work from home, so I am around her all day.

Bonnie has a very good diet each day … she gets 1/4 cup of Oxbox Bunny Basic T each day, unlimited Timothy Hay and other type hays, approx 1 cup or more of greens each day.   Over the summer, many of her greens come from my own garden ……. parsley, sweet peppers, pepper plant leaves, brussel sprout leaves, Zinnia leaves and flowers, apple tree leaves, herbs, and rose bush leaves.    On some days, I give her slices of carrots and other fruits.    She is a Dwarf Holland Lop.   She is not gaining weight.   Her weight and size is very good.     I have seen no worms in her litter box  …. but hubby and I are wondering if she might have worms since she is appears to be more hungry more often.

Bonnie is around a Cocker Spaniel only.   Our Cocker has never had any intestinal worms…. so I am sure she has not picked up anything from him.   She never goes outdoors.

If I had her checked …. would I just take a sample of her poop in to the vet …. or will she have to go to ?

I don’t think you have anything to worry about. Rabbits, in general, are ALWAYS eating. I’ve read they eat about 80 times a day, be it hay, pellets or veggies. Rabbits always need to be eating to help push things through their gentle bellies.

Have you done a yearly exam at the vet? It is recommended

You say she *seems* hungry and looking for food; is it possible she is just investigating her environment more? Have there been any changes lately at all in her environment, such as rearranging of furniture or anything? Rabbits eat most of the time as their diet is supposed to consist of low-calory and high-fiber plant materials, hay. It is hard to know if she is hungry or greedy or just curious.

If it’s been awhile since her last vet check (over a year), it might be a good idea to get her in and have an exam and have the fecal check done, altho she really does sound like a normal bun eating frequently. Her diet sounds good and varied too.

You can just bag some poop and take it in -its’ a very inexpensive test usually as well Exams are best done yearly (and prn when needed) but if you just want to check for worms right now you can just take some poopies in. Fresher the better

Is it that she is just coming to you both and begging, or is she going off to find her hay more often?

If you’ve been more busy at home lately, this could be her way of seeking your attention.

If she’s truly hungry and it’s not worms, is there any difference in her hay lately? Maybe this is not filling her enough?
