is this vaccuming a bunny safe???id say NO,

cause there’s too much pressure for the bunny, but why did omi liked it???

Brian has been shedding for AGES, he’s now half the size he was 2 months ago. No wonder the vet had the CHEEK to hint he overweight after they lopped his bits off. Fortunately it is coming to an end and it’s just his little hind bits that he needs to lose. All I must stress to you is whatever way you tackle it get rid of as much shed fur as you can even if you have to hoover up every hour (yes it was THAT bad! I woke up one morning to what I thought WAS the Brian on the cushion, until he appeared from under the bed), as you don’t want your gorgeous bun swallowing loads of his fur and not being able to poop or pee properly, and eating loads but getting skinnier. No No you don’t want that. Feed plenty of parsley and fresh hay to flush through anything while he is shedding. And keep on grooming. 🙂

What type of a vacuum? If its a pet vacuum (like for dogs) it might be ok, especially since Omi didn’t get scared. But if its like a regular handheld that might suction too much. I use a lintroller. You could try brushing her off outside too.

if my bunnies let themselves be vacuumed… I see no problem in that. Patina runs away and starts to thump while fujoe sits for like 5 seconds and runs off..

there’s nothing you can do to stop the shedding.. just keep brushing a lot.

Well, this question is a first for me. Vacuuming a Bunny…hmmmmm. Well, if your vacuum was really strong, I think it would suck too much on a bunny’s sensitive skin, but that would be rather obvious and I can’t imagine a bunny would be into that, so from the sounds of it, your vacuum seems rather mellow. You’d just have to be careful with ears and limbs, but other than that I really would have to just ask around. I’m sure I will be getting a few raised eyebrows when I ask my expert friends about this one!

Actually, the vacuuming issue has come up before on some of my other groups.

General consensus is that it’s safe on back abd butt but stay away from face and don’t suck up an ear.

O my goodness – never thought I’d be seeing “don’t suck up an ear” on a post

I think as long as its really low that would be fine – but I think you’d want to be careful that the vacuum always stays away from the bunny’s skin to avoid the vacuum from suctioning onto lil’ Omi!

And jesus, don’t give ’em access to the vaccuum wire!! Funny really, as I hoovered up under the bed yesterday Brian cannot be seen for dust, yet Bettie was straight in nosing at what was going on and watching closely (sat behind my head on my shoulders, and leaping at the hoover tube) at what the mad woman was up to now, so there is possible potential to “suck up an ear”. Just an ear tho, Weeny Bean is no more, she’s catching up to Brian rapido speedo. The terrible two!

all 3 of mine are shedding right now…they just started. Hugo likes the handheld vacuum…he’ll sniff the nozzle while its running and Daddy nipped at the ends of his ear tips before, just to tease him…He doesn’t mind. But I think Hugo is a rare kind of crazy…in bunny form.

Luey is molting too …. hair galore everywhere.  I vacuum one day and its back again the next!

I have often thought of sticking the hoover on Luey.  He is not scared of it and will sniff the nozzle.  I would hate for him to get stuck on the end of the nozzle though … Imagine trying to get him off!  Great way to transport them around.  The new bunny hoover!

Don’t tempt me with even the idea of that!! It would be ideal for removing the bettie from under the under the bath!! Also for removing her from Brian’s rear end or the boyfriend’s toe, as she clamps on like her life depends on it.

I think Medusa is growing back because her fur is patchy in the back and I can see it growing back. But I never saw any of the clumps of hair falling out….so I don’t know where it is unless she ate it all!

I take Pepper outside either in her pen or on her harness (we’re working on that) and once she’s had her hop-around she tends to settle down and then I can pluck the bejeebus out of her.  Since there is so much outside to see/hear/sniff, she is usually less likely to fight me about it.

Wow, sorry I havnt posed in ages, but this makes me feel a lot better! Cassy has been shedding like CRAZY! And I was scared it would just keep doing this forever! Cassy hates the little vacuum I have for her cage, so I dont think its an option (though I would love it to be!!) We’ll see how her husbunny is when he gets home and maybe he’ll be ok with it.

I just drove my buns to Texas and all of them did some kind of “panic” molts – poor things I tend to pluck as much of the fur out as I can because they molt in big chunks and I don’t want them to get all that stuck in their tummy! I haven’t tried vacuuming a bunny, but I have lint rolled Juli a couple times…

Oh Moobunnay I hope the trip went well! Bunnies will stress molt too. I am certain I would not vacuum my bunnies, their skin is too sensitive and it could damage or tear the skin or tissue underneath.

I had a fosterbun for a time and he had such short hair that I ran over him with a lint-roller.

Pepper, on the other hand, HATES being groomed.  I usually just hold her down and pluck gently.  It works pretty well when we are outside and she’s on her harness.  We’re getting into a routine – hop around for a while, then settle down for a rest and a nibble while I pluck and pet, and then a brief struggle and a bit more running till I can recapture her to go inside.

Wendy, thats a funny routine – It seems that *struggle* then *run* are always involved in bunny routines I couldn’t vacuum my buns – they are so teeny I’m afraid I’d suck them up!

Sophie likes a little vacumming on her. She immediately starts licking her paws and tryin to groom her ears. Maybe it’s because she’s an only child and likes getting groomed by something besides me!!! Mine has a nice suction on it, but not a loud noise to scare her. Can’t tell you how much it helps my allergies too by the way. LOL.
