Did you examine her toes for any missing nails? I would check her feet carefully, and if there is a missing or broken nail, I’d urge you to call the vet and take her in to be examined. The vet can trim all the other nails while she’s there.

i found out that it was her front left paw that was missing a nail. it looks like it didn’t/isn’t bleeding. she isn’t acting like she is in any pain, so do i still have to take her to the vet? by the way, here is a picture of the nail [sorry the picture is so big]:

This looks like it’s just the front part of the nail and not part of the entire thing. If she’s not limping or acting differently, I’d just keep an eye on her, but not take her to the vet. I think it’s just a broken nail.

P.S. That’s one long one though! Are her other ones this long? You might want to clip her nails or bring her to the vet anyway for a clipping.

Mr. Bunny lost a nail once when I dropped him. It looked just like that. He didn’t seem to even notice it after a day or two…but his bled like crazy, so maybe she missed the quick? Just keep an eye on her nail and paw and make sure it doesn’t get infected or anything and she isn’t acting weird, the nail will grow back in a few months.

If a bunnies nails are too long it does cause them discomfort as the toes as not bearing weight normally- it can lead to wear and tear on the joints and the bunnies do not limp or show any signs of pain because all their feet hurt.

If the nails are long you should definitely get her in to get them trimmed- and it may take a couple of trimmings to get the quick to recede to a more reasonable length.  Is there anything in the cage that it could have gotten caught on?  Healthy nails usually only break due to trauma or excessive length- but there are medical conditions that can cause nail problems.

Although she may be fine now, it would be a good idea to take her to the vet to get all her nails trimmed. They can show you so you can try it yourself in a couple of weeks.
It will have to be done regularly, so it’s good to know how. My vet never charged me more than $12 for a nail trim – I think it’s worth it.

I also had a bunny lose a nail a few days ago, she is our blind one and she got kind of scared when we picked her up for her nail trim and she somehow broke one of her nails. Normally, if a nail rips out and damages the quick it will bleed quite a lot (same as if you cut the quick). It sounds like yours might have done the same as mine though, where the nail came out from the skin, but left the quick intact. It was pretty scary to see so I’m definitely going to be increasing the frequency of nail trims for Grace. If you aren’t comfortable with nail trims, I agree with the recommendations up above to go see a vet to help you out as you learn, it is very important for your buns to have good nail health.

With Dude he lost a nail once, i noticed blood in his cage and he wouldnt put his front paw down for about two weeks, i felt so bad, it just happened, i think it got caught in soemthing, he was miserable. I take him to get them cut because he has attitude and tries to bite if I do it, they charge 10 dollars.
