Hey everyone, I’m new here. I am a new bunny mom and I’ve been taking care of my bunny for a month now. I put her in a big cage when we sleep or not home, today she has learned something new.. she would jump on top of the cage and then she would get scared and can’t go down, I had to take her down by myself two times today. What should I do?I don’t want her to hurt herself and I can’t take the cage away when she’s out, that’s where she feels safe the most and I don’t want to take that away from her. And if i let her out I have to leave everything and just stand beside the cage like a bodyguard to stop her from jumping on top of it. Both times I was with her! I just looked away for a second. If you have any suggestions please help me. I don’t want to keep her in the cage but I felt that this is the only solution to keep her from hurting herself.

How tall is her x-pen? Does it have a wire bottom? Maybe you could make a little stepping stool that is big enough for her to land on when she is jumping down? I have a rabbit named Smokey who has a fear of heights as well. Although, she’s too scared to go jumping on things higher than 2-5 inches! 😆 But having something that is around the halfway mark for her to jump to, then jump to the ground would probably help. 🙂

I also wonder if you could add some steps or a ramp for her to go up and down more safely? I had a foster that would jump up on things but was afraid to go down. I kept finding him hungry and thirsty stuck on the top level of his condo! Adding some ramps did the trick. 🙂

Its close to my knee. I don’t want her to go on top of it. It’s wire and there’s spaces between them, when she is on top her foot might slip in between and she might get hurt

You could put a blanket or something else on top to make it safe for her to be on top of?

Or block access with storage cube grids or something similar.

Could you put a piece of cardboard on top of the cage? You could secure it with clips or zipties. I agree with the others. Either make a safe way for her to get up and down or find a way to block access completely.
