One of my bunny is peeing outside his litter box.

He has 2 litter box, one huge one with the hay rack in it which he uses pretty well.

Another mini litter box which I gave him because he was peeing at that spot frequently as well. So he has 2 litter box, one big one and one mini one.

He uses the mini one diligently but sometimes he would pee out of it. I noticed he will do it if there’s already pee in the mini litter box?

Is it because he think it’s too full with pee so he doesn’t want to use it?

There is a platform that looks something like this: https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd….4519_n.jpg

He is sterilized and it’s only recently that he’s been showing this behaviour.

        Any ideas? Thanks!

It’s good that he’s using the mini, but it may be getting dirty too fast now that it’s his favorite.
Maybe you could move it to the other spot and put the larger one where the mini is now located, since that may be his favorite place in the habitat to pee. He will have more room and it will stay cleaner longer. If that doesn’t work, switch them back. He will let you know by not using them and continuing to pee outside.

Sammy does this too, after weeks and months of being fine, like last week, she just suddenly backs up one morning, butt against the litter box, and pees on the floor. I still don’t know why. But I do clean it up (soak up the pee with a tissue or small bit of paper towel and place it in the litter pan) and clean her litter box right way after that.
They don’t like a dirty litter box, so it often is a non-verbal hint to get to work.

I’ve always just blamed pee next to the litter box on Porky not really thinking about his bum hanging over the edge. Most of him is always in the box, but every now and then his bottom sticks out.

Switching them around as RabbitPam suggested is a great idea if he’s using the mini more than he’s using the big one.

If he uses the larger box fine but is peeing outside of the mini one it does make me wonder if the mini might just be too small. He could be hanging his butt over the edge and peeing outside of it by accident, or maybe it’s getting dirty too fast. I would exchange the mini for a regular sized one and see if that helps too.

                Hi everyone!
Thanks so much for your reply! I’ve realised the issue.
It’s really because both littler pans are dirty.. So now I clean the mini toilet really frequently, and he doesn’t do it anymore.
He’s never been such a clean freak LOL. This is the first time.
