Hi! I have a nearly one year old boy bunny and well, he doesn’t act like I expected him to act considering we (and by we I meen my boyfriend) not to operate him. He’s not agressive, he doesn’t hump, he’s clean… he does have this complusive obsesive nose licking obsession… but aside from that, he’s great…to great  I kinda expected him to act up, especially from what I have read… but they were  “why you should neuter your rabbit” lists…so I was wondering if they might have…exagerated? Or if he has some kind of delayed puberty?

Don’t talk about it! You might jinx it! Some of us are just blessed with pleasant, well behaved little gentlemen. Felony is a good boy too!

Are you sure he is a boy?  And do you have any other rabbits?  No other rabbits can make a big difference in showing hormonal behavior- though a single bunny does go thru hormonal stuff too.  Hormones (internal) combined with other bunnies present (external) seem to add to the effect in a lot of cases.

LOL _yup you don’t want to jinx it! It’s not exaggerated, they can be terrors unneutered-katnip’s right-if you don’t have other pets that may be keeping the horomones at bay a little

Good idea to neuter anyways for the health of it

yes… I accually checked twice because the petshop owner wasn’t 100% sure, but he’s a boy…or a girl with balls? We don’t have any other pet, maybe that’s what’s helping.

oh no! I don’t want to jinx me bunny!

Gosh your very lucky… Henry was a single bunny when he went through puberty and pretty much overnight at the age of 4 months he started becoming really clingy with me following me everywhere and honking while circling my feet. when i was sitting down he would come up and sit on my lap and was so unbelievably affectionate. He would do bunny flops in my lap and then finish by spraying me EVERY DAY. that was the nasty part…everything else i found really endearing.

So we got him neutered at 5 months and he has literally NEVER been the same. Overnight he stopped spraying me but he also became very aloof. No affection towards us anymore and he doesnt sit still for a pet very often anymore. Everything is on his terms. I know i had to get him neutered but i miss the old Henry so i think you are very lucky that right now there is no immediate need for the procedure. Long may it last

The lists are not exaggerated, most folks with an intact bunny know this. It definitely depends on the bunny. In most cases, puberty hits buns (boys and girls) pretty hard, but on the rare occasion you’ll have a bun that is not affected by it. With girls, it is important to spay regardless of behavior or situation b/c of the high cancer risks. Boys are less of an issue if everything else (behavior, aggression, territorial issues) are okay. As long as his diet is good and he gets plenty of outside the cage playtime, I would consider yourself very lucky.

I had an unneutered male bun and he was a dream, no spraying, very little chewing, he was a sweetheart. BUT he passed away young (only a couple years). I’m not sure from what. It might have been something that would have been avoided had he been neutered, but at this point, I’ll never know for sure.

@Luna then I’m glad we at least waited to see how he’d be! I wouldn’t want to change him for anything in the world!

@Beka: yeah, if we had a female, I’d have neutered her wether my boyfriend liked it or not. The risk of cancer just seem to high! Maybe your bun got sick? Or ate something he shouldn’t have? I’ve read cancer is dramaticly lower for males (hence why peepee and bad behavior were my only worries when we decided to wait and see) and well… I haven’t heard of anyone dying just for being a boy.

I’m just glad my bunny is a nice bunny ^^.

                         Are you complaining?

I have 2 spayed females and even they hump everyday over the past week
