Last week my baby girl started showing signs of just not being right.  Having problem chewing, tiliting her head etc.  Took her to the vet, said she had an ear infection.  put her on pain meds and antibiotics.  Didn’t help her.  Took her back in as she seemed to have a lump on her Dewlap.  They said it was an abscess and made an appt.  to have it drained. The morning I took her in for surgery she smelled weird, like chemicals and wouldn’t eat or drink at all.  They told me she was in good hands and I left her.  She got through surgery and was doing ok,  then an hour later they called me and said she died.  Apparently the abscess was some kind of infection.  I still don’t have answers as to how she died, why or what the infection was.  I’m totally devastated.  My baby was only 4 and full of life and healthy.  I was wondering if any of you have any answers to this. Ive looked it up everywhere and have no idea why this happened.

I’m so sorry, that’s so awful

I don’t have any real answers for you but I’m going through a bit of a drama currently with my two bunnies and have been doing a lot of research and one of the things you said jumped out at me. The head tilt – have you looked at EC symptoms online? I could be so far off here but if you haven’t already you could Google the symptoms to see if any of them tally. Also just look up bacterial infections in rabbits there’s like a generic list of symptoms.

Sending love your way I know how it feels to lose something before it’s time but I’m sure you gave your bunny the best 4 years they could’ve wished for, and that’s the main thing <3

Having problems chewing and a head tilt couldve also been a tooth or mouth problem. Depending on the infection, it couldve spread causing her death. (((((binky free little bun)))))

I’m very sorry for your loss. It’s so very sad to lose a beloved friend too young.
I think Gracie’s suggestion of Pasteurella sounds plausible. Pasteurella multicida is a type of bacteria that is commonly carried by rabbits. It’s nowadays believed that the majority of all rabbits carry these bacteria in their nasal cavities. Only some rabbits get sick from them, and it’s not known why. It can cause both ear infections and abscesses. http://rabbit.org/pasteurella-its-health-effects-in-rabbits/

You couldn’t have done more for her.
