My neutered male rabbit is crazy about my 15 year old daughter. When she isn’t around, he is litter box trained, well behaved and pretty laid back. As soon as she is in the room, he poops everywhere, sprays pee everywhere, humps everything in site and will not settle down unless he is on her or touching her in some way. As soon as she leaves, he acts normal again. It’s only been 2 weeks since he was neutered. Could this still be residual hormones in his system? But then why only have issues when my daughter is around? I’m so tired of cleaning up poop and urine because he can’t handle himself around her! 😩 Any helpful advice is appreciated.

It certainly could be residual hormones! Some rabbit owners report an increase in hormonal behaviours for a short time post-neuter. So hang in there, it should soon become better.

I couldn’t say why he particularly is reacting to your daughter. He wasn’t like this with her before the op?

Is she wearing a new fragrance? Using new body wash? Rabbits can have keen sense of smell and react to changes. Maybe he can detect her teen hormones? Teenagers have a lot going on with stress hormones, sex hormones, growth hormones.

Is she handling any other rabbits elsewhere?

Thanks for the reply. He has always seemed to favor her a bit, but nothing to this extent. I guess he could be reacting to her hormones. Her scent shouldn’t have changed really, same shampoo, body wash, no perfume and no other animals. It really is the oddest thing. Hopefully it passes sooner than later!
