My bun is gone. Please help me put my mind at ease.

I left to go work out and when I came home she was dead. She’s been eating fine, and had normal droppings. The only thing I changed recently is buying a bag of select series “pro” feed a few weeks ago because their “sho” variant was out of stock. I also noticed her moving her bedding around before I left but when I returned she had pushed all of it away and was lying on the cage floor itself. That strikes me as odd behavior and I don’t know if it’s significant. When I picked her up to check if she was really gone, her belly had the normal doughy feel and wasn’t distended. I couldn’t even feel any masses anywhere. I really loved this bun and want to know if it was my fault somewhere. She was only 3 and was the only rabbit I kept after I finished 4-H. Someone please give me advice.

I doubt it was the food. If she was otherwise acting normally (eating, pooping, etc.) then it was probably something beyond your control. Are you in an area where RHDV is a problem? That would explain a sudden death. Otherwise, it could have been something wrong with her heart or other major organ.

          I’m sorry for your loss.

It sounds like you were monitoring the health behaviors you should have been, and if something happens even when those behaviors are present, as LBJ mentions, it was likely something beyond your control that could not have been prevented or foreseen. It’s clear you cared for her very much. Binky free lovely bun~

I’m so sorry. Unfortunately rabbits like to hide when they’re sick so we don’t know if they need help. You knew what to look out for and you did everything you were supposed to.
