        … are nuts!

You may remember, my BF stole two rabbits from his mother, because they were kept outside in the 100dgr heat over the summer, never let out of their cages, only fed a handful of pellets occassionally, etc.

And I cried and was a weepy female, and my poor kind BF ended up with 2 bunnies he didn’t plan on!

He FINALLY took them to the vet to get their nails trimmed a couple weeks ago!  Thumper is officially an unaltered boy-bun (he just isn’t very “well-endowed”, so we couldn’t tell before!), and Flower is a girl-bun, we assume also unaltered.

When I thought Robbie and Lizzy were bonded, I had an extra X-pen, and gave it to BF.  He moved Thumper out of his cage and gave him the pen.  Now, this pen is 3′ high, because I got the biggest one I could find when I caught Robbie in the park, assuming he’d try to escape.  He never did, and the cage was WAY TOO TALL to deal with, so I was happy to give it away.  (Flower pees and poops indiscriminately everywhere, so she can’t have a pen.  Stuck in her cage until she gets spayed.  Obviously, she’s first in line to get fixed, because Thumper’s not a problem.)

But BF came home from work yesterday to find Thumper cruising his bedroom.  Pen door was shut.  Thumper was out.

        !!!!!

Apparently, he started out by yanking on the sheets, but then discovered the bag of hay in the closet, and settled in there.  As BF says, “Even when he’s bad, he’s good.”  He just ate hay and pooped in the hay bag!  No chewed cables or bedsheets!

So, how in the world did a 5.5lb rabbit leap a 3′ fence?!

BF has had his eye on him, and when Thumper gets really excited, he jumps AT the pen, catches his front legs over the top, and gets his hind legs on one of the rungs of the pen below.  So I guess Thumper can climb???

(I’m giving BF a camera for his birthday on Monday…shhhh! don’t tell him!…so hopefully we’ll have pictures of the incredible fence-climping bunny soon….)

Wow, your bf has an amazing fence climbing bunny! Actually someone else has one too cause when Layla was escaping they suggested she could be doing that, which she was, but has given up cold turkey since being bonded with Charlie.

btw, finaly an update! You tell us your bf has then, you tell us Thumper is toilet trained then nothing.
Sounds like they’re settling in well, does our bf like them much yet? It’s funny that he escaped then just happily sat & munched on hay…that’s a really placid bunny!

A camera is a great b’day present. I’m sure he’s going to love it.

Thumper is a wonderful bunny. Before I found Robbie, I sort of hoped that Lizzy and Thumper would instantly fall in love. But Lizzy HATED him, and snarled and lunged and left great piles of poop around his cage, as though she was locking him into his own little corner by sheer cheek and feces!

            Sigh.

Flower isn’t the brightest bun in the world. She’s a little neurotic, and poo and pee just dribble from her bum wherever she goes. She doesn’t seem to have rhyme or reason, or even awareness, of where she’s making a mess. I sort of wonder if she didn’t get a little damaged in the head by being left out in the sun…

Anyway, I don’t get to see them very often since this summer. BF shares a house with a roommate in San Diego, so his roommate can feed Flower and Thumper when he comes up here. I don’t have anyone who can feed my beasties if I leave, so he ends up coming up here, and I don’t see them much…

I know Thumper LOVES his pen! BF and I went to Las Vegas for a weekend a month ago, and he had to take the two buns back to mom’s for bunny-sitting…in the cages (along with a ton of lettuce, and express instructions that buns do NOT belong outside!). Thumper was, apparently, IRATE! He thumped every 3 minutes for the entire weekend, gave everyone the stinkeye, and refused to talk to BF for 2 days after coming home. Although, when BF left the room, he’d peek back in, and Thumper was doing wild binkies in circles in his pen and happily bouncing off of his cardboard boxes! Then he’d go back to sulking when BF re-entered the room…sneaky bun!)

So, sorry for lack of updates. I just don’t see them that often. BF loves Thumper…Flower’s a little harder to love because she’s sort of spacey and hard to have just around as a loose pet. Also, BF is saving up to spend the several hundred dollars it’s going to take to get them both fixed, and I know there’s no point in asking about their oddnesses until they’re speutered (and I don’t want to get scolded because they’re not yet!), so I don’t bring them up much…

I totally remember that, and I was so glad your BF took them in!! You guys have rescued three rabbits!! That’s so incredibly sweet of him too, somehow I find it hard to imagine (although I know they exist through here…) boys looking after and owning buns…And dreamy too LOL

How far is long beach from San Diego (or do I sound like a total Canadian asking that )

No worries, K&K…California’s huge! Totally legitimate question! He actually lives in North San Diego County, so he’s about 80 miles away from me.

I’ll tell him you said bunny-owning is “dreamy” in boys, and that you’re cute and blonde, and maybe he won’t be ashamed to tell his little firefighter friends he has fuzzy-wuzzy-bunnies anymore!

(I can’t believe we’ve saved 3 bunnies, either! I only wanted 1! In fact, the bunny thing only happened because I couldn’t have a chihuahua! How funny is life?! Now I have to constantly tell myself NO MORE! I have my eye on a shelter bunny I can’t have who looks just like Samantha Bunnykins… ie, a Lizzy lookalike…but a MiniRex! How CUTE! Actually, she’s a MiniRex-Hotot…and she’s adorable, and apparently Lizzy doesn’t want me to think about her ’cause she keeps eating my couch, so I guess I have to stop babbling now and fend off the rabid couch-eating Lizzy-bits…)

Hm. Crazy bun. ^_^ I’m more worried he’ll go from pen escaping to cage door lockpicking. 0_o Watch out Flower! The nommies distracted him this time, but….

How nice that he just ate hay and pooped. Although if I found one of my bunnies like that I would have SO much more to worry about from all the terrible things they could get into. I have a hard enough time keeping my cats out of trouble (as in tonight when the feral kitty made a break for the indoors and both housecats were on her in a flash, one of them CLIMBING UP MY HUSBAND to get at Hello Kitty.)

Isn’t it funny how “helpless, quiet, woodland creatures” just doesn’t seem to apply to the bunnies on this board?

Oh, no!  Poor hubby!  Is he all scratched-up now?!

I have a week off (yay!), so I’ve been reading trashy mystery novels.  In one of them, the bad-guy spy turned out to be the unassuming meek chef (*gasp!*), and the hero, shocked, said, “That little rabbit of a man!”

                    Little do they know…!

Aww Thnks LC He can tell his firefighter friends to send pics of themselves too LOL (dont’ tell Dave!! )

Timid woodland creatures sooo does not apply to our buns on here does it!! Or really, most that I’ve met!

Mimz we have a ferral kitty at our shelter too! (Long story short, we found kittens under the barn, had to put out a trap to catch mum, she got loose in the house on Sunday, we trapped her in a room, Nanci had welders gloves on and there was still a half our of crazy trying to get the silly cat into a dog crate….we’re having major troubles trying to find a vet who will spay a ferral cat…maybe we won’t tell them she’s ferral? )

Wow, K&K!  What are you going to do with psycho mommy-kitty (spayed or not?)  I’m pretty sure in most shelters in the US she’d just be euthanized if she was feral…

Aw, shucks, Cassi!  Thanks!    I miss you guys, too!

MM, I don’t think Thumper’s at all interested in Flower.  Or Lizzy.  I think he may be asexual.  He tolerates them…with complete indifference.  Maybe this is related to his not being very “well-endowed”…?!

Oh dear. 0_o Well…pardon me for making the pun but…thank God for ‘small favors?’

K&K, Hello Kitty, luckily was already spayed. We know who abandoned her too, was someone who lived on our street. But yeah, feral or not, she is a ‘difficult’ cat, to be polite. If I want to be rude, she’s downright mean and insane. You can be petting her and getting all sorts of purrs and snuggles one second and then the next, KABOOSH! You get b-slapped and she’s gnawing your arm like a starved wolf. *sigh* But she trusts the hubby, so…she’s HIS cat. *washes hands of Kitty*

I just can’t believe Griffy went right up daddy’s side and tried to attack Kitty…that’s pretty bold, even for him. >.< Thank goodness Tooey didn't follow suit or I think we'd still be in the ER.

My babies can get to the top of a 2 foot pen in one jump. It’s nuts.

Cotton used to do that.  HE leapt right over the first xpen I got a 36 inch one so I returned it to get a taller one. HE would jump climb over that one too.

Welll…..the crazy cat will just live in the house hiding from us if we can’t get her spayed. We’re trying some more vets to see if they’ll do it, and I’ve heard tell of a vet in Redwater (About an hour away) who’s spayed some ferrals before, so that may be an option too.
