My Babies Were Neutered Today!

I’ve researched everything about pre and post-care of buns, but I’m still extremely nervous-these two are the loves of my life, I’m not kidding either-they’re on the top of my list-even before my boyfriend.  Can you guys give me some good personal experiences after neutering? Or advice! I’m really worried here! 

GAH! I’m more than just a rabbit slave, they’re all that I’ve been thinking about today! I haven’t been able to focus on ANYTHING else!!!  (So much for work!) 

And I’m realllllyyyy worried about baby bunny as he’s so little! He’s only 4 months old, and he was neutered today too! (Okay, not all that little-he’s already 8 pounds, but still!)

Any additional questions that I should ask the vet?

Should I ask for pain medication for them?

OH! My big bunny (Kelby) free roams-and goes everywhere he pleases- up the steps, jumps up on the furniture, outside through the doggy door- should I limit his access? Or keep him in the laundry room for a few days or something? (Somewhere he can’t jump up onto anything?)

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Your bunnies are very cute!

The vet probably gave them something for the pain (Metacam) that will be good for the first day. They normally do send rabbits home with addtional pain medication, which may be needed for the next day or two. The rabbits don’t need to be jumping up or jumping around for a few days, so if you have a x-pen or some way to confine them, that would be best. If you put them in the laundry room, would they be able to get at the electrical cords on the washer and dryer? Or get behind the washer and dryer? I always worry about bunnies getting stuck in tight places. If that room is safe, with the cords protected, and no way to get behind the appliances, it should be okay.

Make sure that they are eating properly. They may be groggy and a little off their feed the first day, but males bounce back pretty quickly and hopefully they will be eating their regular diet the second day.

Take a quick look at the surgical areas to make sure they are healing nicely, and that your rabbits aren’t picking at the areas.

How are your boys making out? Boys are usually pretty quick to recover from a neuter. If they don’t have much appetite, I suggest fragrant, fresh herbs (cilantro, parsley, mint).
