Definitely CC! Lets see ….. I’m sure you have bunny nail clippers (cat nail clippers), grooming supplies, etc. For emergency, I have styptic powder, 1/5/10 cc syringes, canned pumpkin, bulb syringe, eyewash, simethicone (baby gas drops), unflavored pedialite, banana baby food, gauze, “chew proof” bandage wrap (doubt its really chew proof). Probably have other stuff but can’t think of more right now. I also keep puppy pee pads and Oxbow hay stacks in the carriers and keep the carriers in the bunny areas in case a quick exit is needed.

I don’t have cat nail clippers for the cat I use human clippers, but my dogs clippers ( he is 10 lbs) look exactly like the small animal clippers in the store.

What grooming supplies do I need for a holland lop? Silly but I didn’t think of grooming I have been so focused on the housing and feeding.

I have pedialyte, Neosporin, Saline solution( for eye washing) , among other misc things for the turtles.

We have Cat clippers, toenail clippers, and fingernail clippers. We have syptic powder as well and multiple different brushes. Our main comb is plastic handled with long metal teeth but we have a few little “beard combs” for the lion heads.

We also have carriers ready to go with towels in the bottom and keep the hay stacks on hand and extra litter boxes for if we are staying over night somewhere.

We made up a kit for our buns that include: Metacam (must get from a vet unless you get it not in the US), syringes (small & large), Critical Care – Apple Banana is a favorite here, canned pumpkin to add to the CC, we have Simethicone but simethicone is hit or miss (baby gas drops – unfortunately most gas bubbles that cause rabbits problems are larger & simethicone only targets small gas bubbles, not large), a stethoscope, gauze pads, Neosporin (DO NOT USE NEOSPORIN PLUS!), thermometer, saline solution, & small animal clippers.

Like others, we have bags made up with carriers in case we need to get out of the house quickly!

I would get the name of a good vet and an emergency vet who see’s rabbits first and foremost.

I have the names of 3 vets ( two on house rabbit society , one recommended by the local rabbit rescue) 

But I do need to find an emergency vet.

And I called the vet and they said the nearest one was … In a nearby city and gave the name of the city but not the vet … Not overly helpful.

Simethicone is baby gas drops. I believe there are several brands sold in the US. Simethicone + a syringe to administer it with (orally of course, not with a needle) is my absolute must-have. I have the Walmart brand (Equate?, someone else on here said they used the Walmart brand so that’s what I bought) of baby gas drops. Some people don’t feel that they work, but don’t tell Moshi because one dose (two at the most) works with him.

Looking at TL’s list, I have neosporin in my “bunny care” box too. I don’t have a thermometer but will get one — can’t imagine any of my bunnies allowing *that* though!

If anyone is interested, I got alot of my bunny 1st aid stuff from Leith Petwerks and Drs Fosters and Smith. I don’t remember if the BB store sells this stuff, but worth checking.

My vet isn’t big on RX meds for “on hand”, but I’m going to talk with her about a little metacam.

The others pretty much got it all covered for a bunny first aid kit. Although I just want to stress finding a good emergency vet. It’s better to know one in advance then to be searching for one during an actual emergency.

Baby food is another thing that is good to have in-stock. (The ONLY one my bun will take willingly is Blueberries & Pear.)

The thermometer is something I keep in my kit but I’ve heard it strongly advised to never do this unless it’s an emergency — it’s very, very easy to perferate their bowel which is really really thin. I’ve watched the videos a ton of times but I’m thinking about having my vet show me how at my next appointment, just in case.

In all honesty, I would ask your vets to show you before ever daring to try! If you are on that road, it’s always VERY useful to know how to administer sub-q fluids! The bags are pretty cheap & the needles they normally give you a pile of (my vet does anyways) for free. Same with lines. You can get injectable though if you would prefer along those lines. Knowing how to do sub-q’s has been a lifesaver when I have a bunny who won’t eat overnight or the weekend when I can’t get to the vets office. Hydration is so important during illness!

TL — our vet said she show me but said it was probably cheaper for me to have a vet tech do it because the bags aren’t cheap and must be used within 30 days once the packbis opened. Can you buy single pack bags? Where can you get the bags/stuff if not from the vet?

It depends on where you get them from. We bought 15 for $35 with a script from Costco! (That is where we found them cheapest!). You do have to use the bag w/in 30 days but we always just throw that bag out once someone doesn’t need it anymore. We ordered the needles & lines offline last time in cheap bulk from a medical supply store. You can get the sub-q fluids offline as well as long as your vet gives you a script. You can find much cheaper than the vets office! You don’t use them that often unless you have a bun that goes into stasis a ton. But we never go through our $35 box in a year even with 8 buns!

re: grooming, I have Holland Lops and use the hairbuster comb that you can buy here on BB. Works like a charm.

I also have rabbit (cat) nail clippers, and styptic powder (bought from Leith Petwerks).

Something no one’s mentioned yet (I think): white vinegar. I buy it by the gallon to soak my rabbits’ littler boxes once a week and spray on any place where there’s been an accident. (It’s awesome at getting rid of rabbit urine.) I think you’ll at least want some on hand while you’re litter training your bun.

White vinegar is a MUST in my house. I use it every day! I also swear by the Hairbuster! We have a Furminator that I love as well but the Hairbuster is the only one I can get to work on my Tans!

The woman I work for knows how to administer sub q fluids I can have her teach me.

I HATE vinegar I have avoided it for years. I use baby wipes and dawn only. ( Unscented baby wipes)

Its late tonight but tomorrow I will put together a list and make sure I have at least most of it ordered before he comes home.
