While I was walking around the rabbit room, I discovered that there’s what looks like some kind of mold or mushroom growing along the walls where water comes in sometimes. They were right out in the open and I’m really afraid he might’ve eaten some. He seems to be eating and pooping alright, but the mushrooms only formed since yesterday afternoon…

What should I do? I plan to pick all the mushrooms, but since they grow so fast, I don’t know if I can keep up. Should he be moved out of the bunny room? And could this have a bad effect on Mr. Bunny? I know that mold and fungus is really toxic to them…I’m freaked out…

I would move him out temporarily until you can figure out how to fix the problem Usually if there’s mold, it’s inside the walls and stuff like that is very bad to breathe in.

Could you paint the walls with a sealing paint that will keep out the water? I seem to remember my parents doing that in the basement.

I’ve been trying to find some first aid tips for ingested mold, but I can’t locate any so far. I would give the vet a call and just ask if there is anything special you should do. The intuitive thing is to flush it out quickly, so give a lot of water to drink, very wet veggies and lots of hay. I just think you should call to ask if you need to do something else in the way of medication or immediate care.

              Thanks for the help guys.
I suggested to my parents that I quickly call the vet a moment ago, but they just giggled and told me he’d never eat something like that.
              -_-
I did get him to drink some extra water a minute ago, though.

Elrohwen, I’m not sure if that would work, since it comes from an open space between the floor and the wall (which stretches across about 10 feet), not the wall itself – though it probably does travel through the wall.

You could always try to block that area off from him- using NIC cubes or something else that is not likely to absorb the extra moisture.
