Now that Jess has the ultimate 5 level palace…she hardly ever leaves her cage! She likes to lay in her bed on the top floor peering at me.  When the hubby comes home she usually comes out for about 30 minutes, else she seems to stay in her cage.  Is this cause she’s a happy bunny?

that’s the point of a condo – it’s "their" place.  Yay that she likes it so much!

My buns all have multilevel houses we made from NIC cubes. There are times we let them out and the come explore then go straight back into their houses.

It makes you feel good though to know you made something your bun loves.

I would love to have my bunnies in a condo type cage. I currently have my buns in pens, but they take up so much room and are a nuisance to get in/out of, but they do serve a good purpose (I dislike cages/hutches). I have looked around everywhere for something suitable (NIC Cubes do not exist here in Perth) … I will have to build/make up a multi-level condo, but not in wood as it is hard to maintain and will be inside so a unit which does not look tacky or grotesque.

I need a new “Thinking Cap” … If anyone has suggestions to offer would be greatly appreciated.

I highly recommend getting some bolt cutters if anyone wants to build an addition onto an existing cage!

We bought a pair of cutters for about $10 (US)…which is very low end for bolt cutters.  It cut through the dog cage very easily, however, we could not get them to cut through the borders of the NIC cubes.  We were able to cut through the regular grid part very easily.

I use carpet squares that I buy at Big lots for about $2 each – then I get some zip ties (also at Big Lots) and use a knife to cut little holes in the carpet squares, and zip tie the carpet squares to the NIC panels.  It works pretty well, and is easy to vacuum!

A tip about the NIC cubes – I always get frustrated with mine because they fall apart if I try to move them, so I zip tie most of the connections together.

I have a carpet square in her bed area, but the other shelves are covered w/ a piece of cardboard.  She likes munching on the cardboard.  Some people get "Coroplast" (available from hardware or sign stores) cut to fit their shelves.  Coroplast can be wiped/cleaned easily b/c its plastic.

My hubby (mechanic and handy man extraordinare) recommends zip ties every other square or every 3 squares.  He attempted to explain to me that if you know where the "load barrying" areas are, you can get away w/ alot less.  I am not clever enough for that….

Hahaha, your husband sounds like my Dad. He’s an engineer and built a wooden house for my bunnies with me and my boyfriend. We had to make it to his dimensions and specifications and he was just very “do this do that” and if I said “but how does that work?” he would go “it just DOES” but anyways, it came out great in the end, haha

Hi dawn from Perth, this is Gerard from Jan Juc Victoria,  Floes old man.  I have built a taj mahal to house my bunnies inside, which currently numbers seven. So your imagination is your limit, (and what room you have).  I have used the NIC cubes, butI cant remember if thats there correct name or not,  but you can get them from Bunnings.  If you go to  ‘www.boingonline.com and follow the links to housing indoors, build an indoor house, you will find all the info you need to know. Long live the rabbit.

Hi Gerard …. another Aussie here which is good to see! I have tried Bunnings, City Farmers, Clark Rubber … with no success! Hate to say this but Perth is sometimes a little on the slow side (cringe!) LOL.

Your bunny haven sounds great … I have seen the BOING online segment on bunny house building … I think the cubes are a wonderful idea.

What did you make your bunny house out of?
