I am trying to get Puddles over this bout of GI Stasis. He is eating just about everything I give him ( veggies and fruits) , but he just won’t drink.

He  drank alittle bit out of a bowl but that had apple juice in it. So I force feed him water through a syringe. what else should I try?

Do you have a food processor/blender? Maybe take his favorite fruit or veg and a 1/4 cup of water. Whir them up to make a really liquidy puree and see if he’ll take that? Juice is really a lot higher in sugar than actual apples, so if he likes apples buzz some apple pieces up and see how that goes. If he goes for it, try gradually increasing the ratio of water-to-treats until he’s on all water.

I know sometimes we float apple or carrot slices in Meco’s plain water to entice her if she hasn’t been going for it as much as we’d like.

Thanks, I’ll try that. He is still acting like his normal self. He is just being a bit of a stinker.

normally the apple juice works for me. When Soph had bladder sludge and didn’t want to drink i was told by my vet to dilute pedialyte in her water, to make sure she got all the nutrients and didn’t get dehydrated.

Sometimes they do go thru phases of not drinking. I notice this with Jersey when she is shedding. A great tip/reassurance I was given was to provide really wet veggies. Also try give ones with high water content such as celery or bok choy. Be careful with the fruits as too much sugar can destabalise the gut.
                Hope Puddles continues to improve.

Everyone has given some good advice- just be sure to restrict the amount of fruits and their natural sugars- as an increase can also cause additional problems.

If your bunny is eating veggies and fruits for you they do have a fair amount of water naturally so the bun would drink less than on a more hay and pellet diet ratio.

Thanks to everyone for the wonderful advice! I do appreciate it. I will go and get more wet veggies. The only real fruit we have been feeding are apple pieces. I tend to treat the animals as people sometimes. I get as worried as I do with the two human girls we have. But I guess I’m not alone on that subject am I?

I might also suggest soaking the veggies in water too. That should help as well and the Pedilyte too.

Well we had a great night! I woke this morning and saw that the water bottle was down about 1/4 of an inch. Then I saw it happen….. he drank from his bottle!!! I think we are out of the woods. But I’m keeping a close eye on him for awhile yet.
But thanks to everyone for their support on this matter.
