I just want to know what I might expect when I bring him home. & will he need a cone?

My first boy did not have a cone. My female didnt have a cone either, just depends on your vet. When I took Davey to the vet to be fixed he did great. I went to pick him up and he was his normal giddy self, not groggy at all-he was READY TO GO!!!! Keep and eye on his eating, drinking, peeing/pooping. Do you know if they will give you meds to give him?

            My guy had a cone.
Watch him very carefully for eating, drinking. peeing & pooping.
They can eat with the cone on.

Edit to ad: Mine had a sack slip inside on the vet so she had to make a much larger insision to get it. He was chewing at the stitches too.

I’ve never seen a cone used for a male but I guess since Furface had one for her male, it is used.

Most likely he will bounce back pretty fast.

Usually for females they will provide pain meds for after the spay – you can certainly ask for a few days worth for Mr. P though. But it’s been my experience with the males that they bounce back quickly and are eating when they get home. Now of course this does depend on the time of day the vet actually performs the surgery – most perform in the early afternoon so that their clients are not groggy when they are picked up.

and hopefully your vet will give you pain meds- and those meds are not fun to give. but penny will forgive you. he will bounce back quickly- it’s not as big of a deal as spays.

Vibes to both Penny’s – pretty funny that both of our Penny boys get their neuters on the same day.

mine used to be a girl too but my neuter got canceled today since my penny is still recovering from his bout with bacteria-y poops…. the vet wanted him to be completely off his meds before she neutered him.

My two boys recovery was easy-peasy. Samson ripped out his stitches that night (not a concern really because most vets stitch internally, apply a glue-like substance, and then have outer stitches). My vet said that the outer stitches are really just to give the bunnies something to rip out if they are going to mess with the incision. She said they are really not necessary but help prevent overgrooming or them playing with the area too much. Ivy didnt touch his stitches and we had to go back after about 12 days to have his removed (they do disolve eventually but its better go get them out so it can heal nicer). Keep an eye on it just to make sure its not getting infected!

well i know its very expensive sometimes in regular vets sometimes anywhere from 200 to 500 $ around here because i was told they are considered exotic animals. I did a ton of calling around and i actually called the SPCA where i rescued Lola and they gave me a number to two low cost places. one was for $150 for a spay & $120 for a neuter. and the place where i got it done was a spay or neuter for $65 but it’s based off of your income. I’m only 19 so it was based off my income. It could be different everywhere.

                                          – penny came home and he seemed to be a little out of it, i know he’s had a stressful day. other than that everything went well. I hope everything heals well. I stress A LOT!

Watch him very carefully for food & water intake & output of course.

Now that Penny is fixed….about how long should I wait before I let him& Lola run free together??!! so excited.. I bet they are ready for that day to come back….(they used to be girls) haha. I’ve already learned from that one.

btw…..Penny is already doing ten times better with his litter box. He has been using one litter box the last couple of nights…& he only leaves a couple poos next to it. He used to be pretty good about the litter box but then he all the sudden wanted to poop all around Lola’s cage……he’s already stopped tho…..It makes everyday cleaning so much easier.

Great to hear the litter box training is already coming along!!!! (Not great to hear about two Mr. Penny’s -I get confused putting shoes on-this is going to be EPIC confusion LOL )

Amanda-I think your female isn’t spayed yet correct-she’s the one with the CUTE babies? If she’s not fixed, you HAVE to wait one month-rabbit’s store sperm (crafty buggers) so even after neuter he’s still a potent male. After a month-he’s all outta swimmers.

haha. I thought so. I’m so excited to get them back together on the regular. Penny Has all night to roam & Lola has during the day. but sometimes they get to switch places during the day for a couple of hours. Lola is the mommy with the three cute babies. She isn’t spayed yet. But as soon as I know its safe for her she will be.
