I’m looking to move late this coming March, and I have two rabbits who will be moving with me. When I first moved into my apartment, I left my rabbits where they were with my parents for a couple days while we got furniture settled before I tried to move the bunnies, but that is not as much of an option for this move.

For reference of what all need to move with them, I have:

-2 playpens (I keep them combined for a large cage space)

-Large food container (I usually buy a 25lb bag of rabbit food)

-Water bottle (willing to buy a second)

-Litter box (it’s pretty nasty…I’m willing to buy a new one)

-3 short playpens I use to block off wires and furniture

        -Misc. toys and treats

Are there any recommendations for when and how I should move my rabbits in relation to the rest of my move? I don’t want them too stressed out but I don’t want them to be in the way of moving furniture, either. Thank you!

I don’t really have experience with moving rabbits, so maybe don’t listen to me… but I know that when your training a bunny to free roam people sometimes suggest keeping it confined to a smaller room before introducing him/her to the whole house. I guess it depends on the bun but some apparently go crazy stressed at all the space. Maybe you can apply the same logic to moving? Is there a room that could be dealt with last? Like painting and moving furniture and stuff lastly in that room (maybe if you have a guest room or office) and just keep that as a temporary bunny room? Maybe with all their old things, just until they get settled so that it’s not one big pile of new things all at once. Maybe that way they’ll be out of the way and relatively relaxed until the rest of the house is sorted.
And with the actual moving part of the moving, I think just one of those transport cages like for a dog (because that way they’ll be together and might reduce stress, cause I’m assuming they’re a bonded pair), and then get their area set up before letting them out to explore.
That’s just my guess though! Again I don’t have much experience

Perhaps I should have explained further – I’m moving into a one room basement! Lol! But that’s not a bad idea. Perhaps I could let them run around the new bathroom while everything’s being moved. What trouble could they possibly get into there? (I’m sure they’ll find some.)

I’m worried that having them in their carrier for a long time will be equally stressful, since it seems a little cramped.

We just did a big move with our two buns and they did fine hanging out in the bathroom until their area was all set up and we finished moving all the furniture. Good luck with the move
