My bunny has started “moving” her litterbox from one side of the cage to the other.  She’s never done this before and I can’t figure out why she’s doing it now.  While moving the box, she scatters litter, hay and poop all over!  One day when I came home from work, she managed to empty the entire box all over the cage!  Any suggestions?  I was thinking about getting her a covered litterbox with a dome covering, but I’m afraid she’ll try to move that too.  Perhaps I should get a litterbox that attaches to the cage, but they are kinda small.  Does anybody else’s bunny do this?  Thanks!  BTW – she lives in a Leith Petwerks cage with an x-pen attached.

You can drill holes into one of those covered litter boxes, thread a wire through and then clip it to the bars with a snap bolt or a key chain beaner.
It can be a boredom vice. Mine did it, too.

That’s a great idea! Thanks. I try to keep her occupied with toys, etc., but she pretty much ignores them.

I use binder clips to clip the litter box to the cage.
If the edge of the litter box doesn’t line up with the cage bars, I put a zip tie around the cage & then use the binder clips to attach the zip ties to the litter box.

Yep, she’s just redecorating. Anchoring the pan will do it, although you might try it on the other side before you hold it down, in case she prefers it in a different spot and that’s why it’s being moved.

Is she going outside the pan at all? Sammy scattered different brands of litter until I tried one she liked, then she stopped.

Thanks for the suggestion RabbitPam! No, she’s not going outside of the box at all. She just scatters everything when she moves it and it’s a nice size litterbox too! Right now, there is litter and poops everywhere.

I just thought of something…I always buy Timothy hay from House Rabbit Society since it’s close to my house, they sell flakes at $5.00 each and is really inexpensive since I have 3 rabbits. The last time I went to purchase hay, they said they had orchard grass and did I want to try that. I said okay…my buns have never had orchard grass before. My other two buns seems to like it, but do you think Stella is moving her box because she wants to get rid of it? She’s eating it without any problems. I’m currently back to Timothy and will see if that is the problem. It’s really strange, since she’s a pretty laid-back bun (more like a couch potato).
