Okay, it has been awhile…Bunny Drama update….Astrid is now Olaf…We recently discovered two small sacs on either side of her genitals assumedly testes…and assumedly a penis. So the German pet store that wouldn’t let me buy the bunny I wanted cause he was a boy and I needed a girl and a boy and I "had to mate them" sold me two male rabbits….

SO Levi the white english spot mounts Olaf(astrid) all the time we have an appt for neutering but it is not for another few weeks… Olaf sometimes puts up with it but other times runs from Levi, they do not scrap or fight though. Then they also groom eachother, they both groom eachother and then snuggle and lay together. So I am wondering is the mounting behavior ok? WIll it stop some after the neutering… HE is also a cage rattler and I am worried he will mess up his teeth. HOpefully this will change with the neutering too.

        THanks, Ashley and the boys

I doubt the neutering will change the cage rattling as this is usually done for attention. Lol. As for the mounting, what are you cmplaining about? LOL. Many would kill not to have 2 males killing each other =P Seriously though, mounting is a dominance thing and it will continue even afterwards though it may decrease significantly. Once they have established it properly, they will stop the mounting, doing it only occasionally. You’re lucky to have two males that groom each other! =)

well – it doesn’t surprise me! pet stores are pretty well known to mis-sex rabbits, but it’s pretty funny considering their awful breeding / selling scheme.
the good news is your boys aren’t killing each other! the snuggling and grooming are both very good signs. the humping should decrease after the neuter, but it can take about a month for the hormones to calm down. And as Ms Binky mentioned, it’s also about establishing who is the boss, but it sounds like Olaf might be ok with Levi being in charge. 🙂 The good news is they’re not being very aggressive, which often happen once puberty hits. Are you having both boys neutered?

the rattling is for attention and isn’t likely to stop post-neuter. but he’s likely to be more calm once he’s neutered.

As far as the cage rattling, hang toys and tie chew things like cardboard center of paper towel rolls to the cage to give them something else to do. Maybe that wil help them reidrect their energy.

Yeah, i added some cardboard rolls to the cage and now they are throwing them around and seem pretty happy. I am having trouble finding a lot of things here so at the next pay check i think i will have to order some things online…For hanging things from the cage would bird toys work, the kind with rope, wood and little bells?

as long as they don’t have food, seeds, those mineral chews etc attached. I’ve used wooden bird toys as well since most are made with birch which is okay for bunnies too. Willow toys are a big favorite with bunnies too. I’m not sure if bird toys include willow. But the willow must be untreated. You can also make hanging toys yourself, just use the cardboard boxes with a treat inside or towel rolls and use sisal, jute type rope and tie them to the side or from the top.
