My bunnies need to go on a diet since I am home with them all day and have been feeding them way too many treats in addition to unlimited pellets and hay and lettuce at night.   So I emptied one bowl of pellets and filled it with water just to see if they would use it.  I was going to ask how you tell if they are using it if you never see them doing so.  And I was also going to say that the water level is going down but that doesn’t necessarily mean they are drinking out of the bowl either.  And I am talking in the past tense because as I was typing this post, Eddie went to the water bowl and drank out of it.  LOL  So he unknowningly answered my question for me!  haha   That seriously doesn’t happen often as you all know.

Ok, so now I need to get them a bigger water bowl cause the small crock I am using is not going to last all day while I’m at work.  And hopefully cutting treats and having only one bowl of pellets will slim them down some.  lol  (And possibly save me some money on pellets!)

that many pellets is definitely too much. How big is the bowl you’ll have for them now? My girls get a 1/4 cup each, moose gets a bit more than that. We’re lowering everybunny’s amount too.

I don’t really measure how much I give them. They get one scoop which is like 2/3 cups I think. And they usually don’t eat all their pellets in one day.

Lolli is especially at risk for becoming overweight since she’s a rex… and this can lead to other health issues. Plus, reducing pellets will encourage them to eat more hay and veggies. The most I’d recommend would be a 1/4 each, but you could go less than that and give 1/8cup each.

Lolli’s already overweight and Eddie’s on his way to be overweight since I’m home all day with them and feed way too many treats. I am now backing off the treats. Our normal routine when I’m working is – in the pen all day, give bye bye treats in the morning, go to work, come home 8 hrs later and let them out, give the lettuce and maybe a few more treats, then back in the pen at night and give nite nite treats (way I get lolli to go in the pen and stay there). And checking to make sure they have pellets.

Now they are free 24/7 and begging ALL the time for treats. And because I have no self control, I’d give in. But not now. I’m trying to keep track and only give them treats the 2 times if that. But it gets hard cause I’m on medication and I forget things – like if i had already given them treats today, if i took my medication and which one, etc. lol

So I am now limiting the pellets and treats. They graze on both pellets and hay throughout the day and night. And also the lettuce when I give it to them. But I really do know that I need to limit the pellets to force them to eat more hay. Heck, we ALL need to go on a diet in this house! LOL

I got one of those water bistro things for mine. Hopefully they can’t knock it over and will have an endless supply of water thru the day. Again, unless they knock it over. We shall see. lol
