My bunny, Krimpet, has been great about using the litterbox since I got him at 6 months old…until now. He’s two. For some reason, he decided to start pooping outside the box. Not all, just some; and not your usual scattered poops. A few days later, he decided to pee out of the box. It hasn’t been a full urination, just a spot here and there. He is fixed, I have no other bunnies or visiting pets. I really have no idea why he may have started this, except that he gets upset when I am gone for a day (???). But, he’s been fine for the last 1.5 years.

Additional information that might help — He’s not a caged bunny. He has a cage/litter area, but he’s been so good that I haven’t felt like I need to lock him up. I live in a one bedroom apartment and he’s basically had the run of the place. His litter is in the bathroom and the random poops/pees are only in the bathroom, nowhere else. I did lock him up (baby gate on bathroom area) when he started pooping and that’s when he peed the first time. The next time he peed, he wasn’t locked in.

We are going to the vet this afternoon to check for medical issues, but I’m wondering what thoughts on behavior you might have.

        Thanks so much,

        Eileen

My first thought was a UTI, so it’s good you’re taking him to the vet!

It’s strange that he would be peeing on a hard floor, since they usually choose to pee somewhere absorbent, which makes me think it could be a medical issue.
