I just gave him some Benebac mixed with some pumpkin this afternoon and I’m having the hub pick up some more tomorrow. (Fiver is not enjoying the Benebac as much as he did a few weeks ago, so I have to sneak it in now.) I’m thinking he’s developed an intolerance again for the veggies, as if I take those away he firms up.

It’s odd, both he and Pip seem to do so well with greens for awhile and then suddenly they start getting poopy butt with their cecals. Today there was a spot of completely liquid cecotrophe on Fiver’s bedding, I had to wash it immediately. He’s also blowing his coat right now, which can’t be helpign things as I can’t get all the loose fur off each time I groom him, he must be swallowing a bit of it. He’s grumpy as all get-out too.

His fecals are fine. I’ve got him on oat hay (young) to keep his bowels more stabilized, but any diversion from that (3rd cut timothy or greens) and he starts getting all loose cecals again and PHEW! do they smell! Worse than usual.

Hub has dental apointment tomorrow, so I have no car, but if I don’t see improvement I’m taking Fiver back in for a sample. I need to be sure this isn’t some parasite. It would have to be coming from the sink water (we’re on a well) that I’m cleaning the veggies in, as every breakup and freezeup the water seems to change impercitibly and causes everyone stomach upset, humans included. With the possible exception of Mimzy, who seems to be fine, greens or no. But even though I wash and dry them, Fiver and Pip seem to get the worst of it.

A shame, becasue they both enjoy them so.

Mimz, can you send in samples without having to take Fiver in? Maybe you can send some off with Hubby tomorrow…(sure he’ll love that!).

Mimz, how often and what quantity of cecals is he producing? I’m curious because I haven’t followed your issues with cecals much.

Otto does get them fairly often – maybe once per week or once every two weeks? I can’t tell that it’s diet related, except it may be linked to the days I give him sugary treats. I’m just curious how often your buns are doing it.

Otto’s also don’t stick to his bum, so they create far less mess and work than poopy-butt. I don’t envy you doing butt baths!

He’s doing a bit better today. Not quite the mess on his bed there was two days ago and he had no lettuce. I only picked up two small pieces of cecal and they were firm. A few smudges also, but nothing like the soup I was looking at before.
No greens at all last night for him or Pip…she also shows improvement.
Their treats have already been cut way back or eliminated.
I’m going to dose a little more pumpkin tonight, just in case.

Methinks, skibunny is having some trouble with her bunnies and green lettuce right now as well…maybe it’s one of those contamination things like with the spinach a while back?
