Ok, we restarted the bonding… with the added support of a Petzy Cube™.
It went AWESOME. We had them on the dryer, figured may as well being as I had laundry going
No nipping, no frantic mounting by Monkey… just peaceful bunnies.
This was just after we started, after soem initial scaredy-bun snuggling.

Here Monkey contemplated mountign, but changed her mind.

In this one, Monkey was pushing herself into Moosie, her little paw was pushing at the towel to keep her in place with the shaking dryer.

Some enforced snuggles ![]()

And Monkey saying “Can I go home now please?”

My babies were very well behaved tonite, they both got raisins for being so good with each other
Tommorrow, I’ll do some more.
Yay! I am so happy for you! I love the photos. Your babies are so so cute! I seriously don’t know how you can stop yourself from picking up monkey …never letting her down and constantly snuggling and kissing her. She’s so darn cute. Regardless if she’s bratty…I would make her love snuggles lol!! No but really…awwwweesoooome. (I’m trying to be like Crush from Finding Nemo) Tooootally aweesome duuuuuude!! Okay I need to sleep or something I’m losing it! I hope they continue with great progress. Is your knee feeling well to sit on the floor with them and such? *waves magic love potion wand* Taaadaaaaah. Okay tomorrow will be good for you I swear! *cheers*
I love that closeup of their faces. Monkey looks like she’s whispering conspiratorially in Moose’s ear.
(Of course, who can hear anything with that dryer making all that noise?)
I can sit on the floor, but I am under orders to not kneel for a very very long time. So its hard to do bonding on the floor
Or the tub for that matter. Hubby will have to do that part while I watch. For now, the Petzy Cube™ does the trick ![]()
Another Petzy Cube™ success today. 40 minutes in it, and only a nip or 2, nothing serious. We tried nanners on heads today… Moose wasn’t interested. Monkey couldn’t reach Moosie’s head
So I had to lift her up to see it lol. After she did, she happily groomed it off of him. So yay! for Monkey grooms. Poor Monkey didn’t get hers groomed off tho, so I had to help her. We’ll do another session tonite before bed too. ![]()
Bunnehs with nanners.

Monkey smooshed into Moosie’s side. She stayed liek that for a good 5 minutes.

Moosie saying “Mooooom! Get me outta here!!”

Can i have monkey? is monkey a dwarf? can i take it home? ![]()
Monkey is a netherland dwarf, only 1.5 pounds
She’s my itty bitty baby bunneh girl ![]()
Mine is supposed to be only 2.5 – 3 pounds (her mama was big and Chacha has longggg ears)
I WANT MONKEY TOO!!!!!!!!!
Hehe Monkey has itty bitty ears. They’re so little, its funny watching her wash them… but you cant has her, she mine ![]()
If you feed her tons more she will end up fat like Bun. She’s a chunky dwarf lol. Poor baby Bun can’t groom those ears well. I like Moose with the nanner on his head! Btw – Target has stuffed nanners in the dollar bins …very cute. I bought one for Indy’s cage! Go go go petzy’s cube!
I saw your pix on Facebook and couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Glad I found this post with more.
they’re doing great! I am reminded of Jack and Vivian, once Jack was healed and learned that he could snuggle but not hump. She really seems to be getting the idea. Moosie is obviously tolerant if she controls herself. they are so adorable looking.

Another Petzy Cube™ success today. 40 minutes in it, and only a nip or 2, nothing serious.
Monkey smooshed into Moosie’s side. She stayed liek that for a good 5 minutes.
“Take Two” will be a charm, the first time around was just for rehearsal
.
–Petzy CubeTM — ![]()
LOL! I don’t suppose it will be approved by rabbits…? Everybunny who has ever been in it had the gloogliest eyes. Yours no exception.
The picture above is the one that makes me confident that your bonding will really take off. Monkey snuggling up to Moose is a promising sign. Rabbits that are going to be really hard to bond don’t snuggle like this. What happened after the five minutes of snuggling, did one get upset?
This was Neigey at the beginning of my cube sessions between Deirdra and him, for comparison. He was terrified.
I say yours are doing very well!![]()
After the 5 minutes, Moose just hopped towards me and put his paws on the bars, he wasn’t upset at all.
…I forgot to mention…
…Moose licked her side once ![]()
That box is such a good idea! Monkey’s neck makes her head look a little dislocated in that picture..haha. And it looks like Moose may be caving to the affection
Petzy- I literally had to giggle at that picture of Neigey. So cute.
Another night, another session. Started out just on the living room floor with the cube, moved to the dryer when moosie got nippy. It wasn’t big nips, just little “I’m in charge” nips. Monkey didn’t appreciate that much, she mounted him tonite. Its still hilarious. Moose DID lick Monkey’s head a couple times, not sure if he meant to or not, as he then yawned and stretched, he always gets licky when he’s sleepy. his blankie gets a good grooming every time he naps. So maybe I should do some sessions when its afternoon nap time for the buns… hmms. I’ll post a couple pics int eh morning.. tis 2 am and I am sleepy.
how does Moose tolerate her mounting him?
Moose sits there and takes it, he doesn’t do anything to make her stop. He doesn’t look scared or anything, just sits there.
Good. Bonding is easier when one rabbit tolerates being mounted.
Does he ever try to mount Monkey?
Nope, he’s never tried. Never demands grooming from her either.
edit: all he ever does to express dominance is nipping her.
Monkey, they should bond soon… like now.
Good to know
I’ll get on them tonite, I got tons of time after my doc appointment this afternoon ![]()
I forgot to add another thing.. we gave them raisins in the cube last night, and neither tried to steal the others raisins. Usually Moose doesn’t go for the treats when in sessions, but he was a happy boy with his raisin last night. Monkey pretty much climbed over him to get hers, and he didn’t bat an eye at that. It wasn’t really til late in the session that he got really nippy, I’m thinking maybe he was just getting irritated at there being no hay or his potty. He dove for his potty when we let them back into their pens.
Held another session this afternoon after I got home. This time, we did the Cube in the living room, no dryer today. They did pretty good in the cube, only a couple little nips from moose. No humping from monkey. Sooooo… we set up our extra pen, and dropped the 2 into it. I sat in it with them tho
At first we had a litter box in it. Monkey was quite happy to sit in it and eat hay. Moose say in it with her briefly, then got all nippy… so out goes the litter box. Just them and me in the pen now.
Monkey is totally into the bonding, she adores Moosie even though she won’t groom him yet without the assistance of nanners. Moose didn’t lick her at all today, every time he turned towards her, he’d nip. Not having any of that, so they go back into the cube. Everything is fine again once in the cube… Moose even loafed in it for a few minutes.
…so now what? Should I keep up the cube? Should I go to the tub? Set up the pen elsewhere? Its Moose we gotta wear down, Monkey will cave easily once he does.
Edit: We switched cages and pens for them, Moosie is in Monkey’s, Monkey is in moosie’s. Monkey loves moosie’s cage, Moose not as thrilled lol. We can’t keep them in each toehrs over night, as Monkey’s pen is less sturdy,a dn Moose can easily lift it. So we need to watch them. We’ll keep them in there until we go to bed however. Gonna do another session before bed too.
Another update. Did another session, lasted an hour-ish. Moose groomed Monkey a ton, but nipped her every time afterwards. Sometimes it wasn’t a little nip, either. Still no grooming from miss Monkey. Moose did demand a groom from her, shoving his face under hers, but Monkey didn’t go for it. Monkey humped him some more again… randy little girl.
Tomorrow I have a dentist appointment, so I’ll likely only get a session in before bed.
You need to expand. Use the cube to start and end on a good note every time. If you have a new spot to set up the pen — go for it. Don’t make it too big in the beginning. No litterboxes, like you said, or anything that either may claim. A pile of hay, water and a few scattered pellets/treats are OK. You could add a random stunt double as well as yourself to the pen to distract them from each other and to give something to run around. Since you know it’s Moose who needs to mellow out, you will watch his every move and stop him in his tracks by clapping your hands or squirting water or stomping your foot, whatever, when he wants to nip Monkey.
Thats what I figured. The cube doesn’t do much for em now. They’re fine in it, its outside it they need to learn to deal with each other.
Moose did great in Monkey’s pen too. After about an hour, he ran to Monkey’s bed and flopped in it and just snoozed. ![]()
Only did a cube session last night. Just didn’t have the energy for anything more exciting. They did fine once again. Moose licked, Monkey didn’t. She gave herself quite a few baths, moose loafed, a fairly quiet session. Will do a pen session later.
that’s mainly why I made the cube. It gives you a session even if you’re too beat.
Yeah, with me having a dentist appointment yesterday, and hubby not feeling well, the cube was definitely a good thing
I’m just happy I’m finally done with all the dental work that needed to be done. Yay!
Did a session over lunch today with the cube. Little bit more nipping, nothing too serious. Monkey did alot of grooming of herself again. The big part this session was Monkey flopping in the cube next to Moose ![]()
Awesome session tonite. Set up the pen in the computer room on a fleece blanket, and with towels clipped onto the pen all around so it was totally neutral. had a pile of hay and a bowl of water in the middle. Went awesome! Both of them were happy to sit and munch on hay, Monkey had fun leaving presents everywhere, Moose as usual was a good boy with his, he waited til he went home to use the potty. Monkey is soo not modest.
No mounting. Only a couple nips.
And lots of flops. Moose flopped first. He just fell over byt he side of the pen and lay there, nice and comfy. Monkey later flopped next to the water bowl. Moose flopped again maybe 3 seconds after Monkey flopped. Monkey flopped again on my feet
Lots of loafing. And Moosie groomed Monkey a bit too! Still no licks from monkey, not even for banana today. Oh wells. I took some pics and videos of it tonite, but my camera battery died part way through, so I have to wait til tomorrow to post them.
Very proud of my babies tonite, they were in the pen for over an hour ![]()
yipeee!!
Ok, pics from last night.

Nice and comfy bunnies ![]()
More pics!

Monkey flopped on my slippers ![]()

Don’t mind my bright red PJs ![]()

A close up of Moosie’s pretty eyes… half blue, half brown!

I still can’t get over how precious Moose is! He’s a very unique looking dutch… not pure black markings, more like a speckled charcoal color…
Wow! Those eyes – very cool! Things look good MB….now you keep it up, else I’ll get the poking stick out! If you can’t, enlist hubby’s help – once he’s better of course.
He’s been helping, he’s feeling a bit better
He was on camera duty for part of it last night
I’m doing a session in the pen right now.. and I had to update immediately.
WE HAVE MUTUAL GROOMING!! With no help from me or bananas!!
![]()
Ok, full update time. We started with the cube, we put them in the cube on the couch between us while we watched a show on dvd. Thats when the mutual grooming happened… several times. Monkey groomed his ears for a solid 5 minutes, and boy was Moose digging that!! They did awesome int he cube, so after our show was done, decided to put them in the pen for a bit. Moose got nippy then, even chased Monkey a bit. He did calm down for a bit, but there was no more grooming.
Didn’t get any pics tonite, as the pen session was rather short, and we were busy watching a tv show for the cube part
I do wish I had my camera to capture a video of Monkey grooming him! Maybe tomorrow I’ll get one ![]()
yaaaaaay!! I am so so so sos sooooooooooooooooooooo happy for you!
I’m curious….did you put them in the pen with the blankets on the side like in the last set of pics? This seems to make a difference for some, making it more enclosed.
I’d love to see Monkey’s reaction if Moose groomed her ears! They’re so little surely she can’t groom them fully herself – well maybe just with her paws.
Yeah, I put them in the pen with towels on the sides, as it made it totally neutral for them. They couldn’t see out around it, so they didn’t know where they were
I had decided to set it up int he computer room so the hubby could watch them too.The computer room is where Monkey’s cage used to be, so she’d recognise it I think.
Moose has groomed her ears a bit, but mostly just her entire face and her sides a bit
I’ll make sure to have my camera handy when I do a session here in a bit
We’ll do a cube session on the couch again, and a pen session later on.
Haven’t updated ina few days, mostly cuz the same stuff is happening. Monkey is grooming him frequently now, Moosie is still nipping her like theres no tomorrow. He will groom her all nice like, then NIP.. he bites her. Poor baby, Monkey is just wanting to snuggle and be friends now.
I got a video, but I need to edit it.. you can so hear my hubby in the background swearing at his xbox >.< I'll post it after I edit that part out lol.

Monkeybun,
I want to steal your Monkey bunny.
Please?
I see that Monkey is becoming more friendly, but Moosey seems to be putting up more of a resistance ![]()
Yeah, Monkey likes him, he isn’t quite as interested right now ![]()
A video of my babies.. sorry, no audio, hubby was swearing too loudly at the xbox so i had to take it out lol.
Lol Moosie just looks at her like “Well what the heck was that?” They are such a cute couple! Well if Moosie isn’t working out you know you can just send monkeyloo here. Bee is currently practicing mountain climbing on my clean clothes pile. I am sure they will have a great time together! Hehehe!!
Ok but reaaaaly I am glad things are going so much better, I am sure you will break Moosies stubbornness soon!
He does groom her, we just gotta get him to stop nipping. I wonder if he gets irritated after not having a litter box for so long. He refuses to go anywhere but his box. Maybe I’ll try a litter box in the pen again.
Oh, and Buri.. it isn’t quite stealing if you ask first lol.
This is wonderful progress, mostly the start of Monkey grooming Moosie finally.
I’m not sure the nipping is hostility. Because when Spockie got excited as he groomed my feet, he eventually would nip me. I would have to say no biting, then it was like he realized he was getting too rough, and went back to just licking.
It may be nips of excited interest of that kind.
Posted By Monkeybun on 03/09/2010 02:14 AM
Oh, and Buri.. it isn’t quite stealing if you ask first lol.
Oh darn ![]()
Monkey is so cute!
I’ve always had such a hard time taking photos of Chacha, because she is so dark ![]()
Monkey is so chill LOL!! Moosie is like “Hmmmmmmmmmmmm I like to rest.” ![]()
Pam, his nips are definitely more hostile, he’ll be sitting there grooming her, then move his head towards her rear and just bite. He’s also nipped her after being loafed, just sits up, looks over, pushes his face under her belly and tries to nip her there. Its quite frustrating.
They have to go through it. It is quite irritating to the rabbit that gets nipped. It is part of bonding, though. It will stop.
Yeah, I figured I’d just keep up the cube sessions, and some pen sessions, let them sort it out. Monkey is quick to hop away if he gets too nippy, although in the cube she just growls at him and they settle down a bit. Sometimes tho, Monkey has ran to the back of the cubs and gone up on her hind legs to look at me.. with the expression like she’s saying ” Mommy, why is he being so mean to me?” Its adorable ![]()
So I did a cube session tonite, went great. Lots of mutual grooming. So.. I plopped them into their bonding pen with a litter box. Both of them are totally fine in there right now, each went potty, they’re munching on hay… they are being very good bunnies ![]()
Doing a cube session atm… camera is int he kitchen, i’m in the computer room.. if i get up they will move. But right now, they are so snuggled with each other, both of em flopped and relaxed. <3
edit: i got a couple pics on my hubby’s cellphone, i’ll post em when he uploads em for me. they unflopped, but still loafed, and Monkey is tooth purring ![]()
Hubby was quick to upload em for me…

![]()
Monkey, can I steal both of your bunnies? ![]()
Nuh uh, mine
We did a car ride tonite too, had a friend who works at our grocery store thats been dying to see them and hasnt been able to come visit, so we took them over there when she got off work. They were very good bunnies for the car ride, Monkey did more flops next to Moose, did some grooming, and Moose only nipped once. ![]()
LOL
They play around in the car? ![]()
hehe yeah, I have a subaru Outback, so I can just fold downt he back seats and they have TONS of room to hop around. Did that for the first time tonite, they loved it. Monkey, of course, had to rub her chin on everything.. silly bun thinks she owns the world.
Tomorrow morning I’m taking the two monsters for a car trip.. to the rabbit advocate outreach for their spa day
I’m gonna keep em in the same carrier for the trip, and see how they do. Hubby will come pick them up after they’ve had their turn at the spa ![]()
Ooo is that your new car??
I’ll just be taking my subaru… hubby’s car is the fancy new one..lucky bastard… lol. But they’ll get a nice ride in it back home while I’m at the outreach ![]()
Bunnies can get a spa day?
How did you get the names for both of your bunnies?
Well, Monkey was always a little monkey, she likes climbing on stuff and being up, so Monkey it was.
Moose.. well, we wanted to keep tot he animal theme, and somebunny on here suggested Moose, we tried it and hubby liked it, and he’s kinda mellow and slow alot… so it fits
The rabbit rescue I volunteer for does a nail trimming and grooming day every month, so I take them in for their trims then
It was a great time for a bonding session, car ride, plenty of stress… lots of grooming and snuggles occurred in the carrier ![]()
OK, is there a thread about the Petzy Cube? Is it just one cube? How big should I make it for one 12 lb rabbit and one 3 lb. rabbit? Halp?
I thought Monkeybun’s bonding was the thread about the cube. We had posted about it all over… Size of Zinnia won’t b a problem. She will really fill the cube though, like Deirdra did.
It was a tight fit for her. You need to set the cube for their bonding stages i.e. with different stressors. You can put the whole thing in your dry bathtub and let the faucet run into the drain for noise stress beside them. You can hang it up and swing it by threading a dog leash through the top (ziptie well) you can take it on car rides and put it in top of the washing machines. You can have it sitting on the floor when you are cooking… you can have your dog look at it with the lid closed… within reasoon you can put the cube in many different settings. It has the advantage of being see-through, rigid and escape-proof if ziptied properly.
SWING THEM FROM A DOG LEASH?!? Surely you aren’t serious…lol
I am
The Petzy Cube™ is fantabulous, its been great for M&M. they are slowly getting better with each other, they do great in teh cube wherever we put it, although Moose still gets nippy when they are in a pen.. I figure we’ll put mroe toys in the pen so that Moose has something to do besides chase and bite Monkey.
One step forward, 2 steps back… tried the pen again tonite. Mose played with the toys a bit.. but then just went for Monkey all out. she flopped, and he went for her tummy, poor baby girl. We’re getting very frustrated with him. She is totally in love with him, will groom him, when he lets her near, flops for him, happily bounces around him.. and he just wants to bite now. He refused to groom today, went to bite her face instead.
…very discouraged in my moosie man today. ![]()
Even more downhill… cleaning their litter boxes tonite, doing my usual thing.. and Moose hops onto the second shelf of his cage and sniffs me.. and proceeds to claw at my face. First time he’s done this.. he’s associating me with these distasteful bonding sessions he has to go through.. not sure if I can handle this.
I think bonding shoud be re-termed “the-one-step-up-two-steps-back game with bunnies” — only that is too long a phrase.
Take a little break, for yourself to chill out. Then, since you know Moose is the problem, focus on him: don’t let him get away with his teethy advances. Spend this week’s sessions sitting in their pen with them like you do (in red PJ’s
) and really protect Monkey from him. You are going to play the Boss Bunny, a rabbit tyrant. Wear gloves. Let him feel that you are everywhere at all times protecting Monkey… then end the session in a forced snuggle on your lap.
The other thing that may help is if you transferred their bonding pen to a new spot.
Monkey, what sets Moosy off?
Monkey being near him.. lol. I don’t know.. sometimes he seems fine, sometimes he just goes all out on her.. its frustrating. I’ll move their sessions to the bathroom they haven’t been in yet, see if that helps.
For a gross idea, try cleaning out her anal glands about 30 minutes before the bonding.
Monkey has never needed hers cleaned.. I’m hesitant to mess with them as there hasn’t been any problem with them.
Isn’t there some sort of calming herbal spray you can get for rabbits? Might want to rub both of them down with it. I don’t remember the name though someone here probably does.
Rescue Remedy. I think it just makes them drunk. It has a high alcohol content.
Aww I am sorry about your setbacks! I’m sorry I can’t give you more advice because I have never had nippy issues with my buns.
We might be going to my mom in laws this weekend for he day.. maybe i’ll take M&M, the car ride and neutral space may do them good… not to mention a doggy for a stresser.
Rescue Remedy. I think it just makes them drunk. It has a high alcohol content.
Tehe. Well you can get a pet version now that’s alcohol free…or you can dilute the normal one.
MB, that trip might be a good thing to switch things up a bit. With Monkey flopping, it might actually be a ‘dominant’ move or at least viewed as one by Moose. Sometimes they have flop wars too, “I’m more comfy and secure than you so Nah!” or her sort of “thumbing her nose” at him for not paying her due attention. Still, it’s not good he’s reacting that way. Is he being a bit more edgy in general at the moment – outside of bonding sessions?
He does get a little more grumpy outside of the sessions when I go into his pen, like when I was cleaning his box. he seems to think every time I come in there, I’m gonna make him play with Monkey
Tonites session went decently, he tried nipping a bit, mostly when Monkey was demanding grooming, although towards the end I think he was getting tired of it and was chasing her more. Of course, that was after almost 2 hours in the pen. Monkey groomed him a ton, took her forever to get all of his ears lol. Was cute as heck too
I did get a video, I’ll post it tomorrow after I upload…
All in all, a much better session tonite. Probably helped that I switched it up and put the pen in the living room, with fresh towels on the floor so it didn’t smell the same. Put the litter box in too, so Moose didn’t get cranky about needing to go potty and not having his box. They didn’t fight over it at all.
Good day today
Which was really good, being as today was the 1 year anniversary of the car in our wall lol.
Another session today.. they did really well. Moose flopped, Monkey flopped, not beside him tho. Moose nipped a bit, but only after Monkey got humpy really.
The big thing tonite was… Monkey binkied in the pen.
Its was awesome. She was sitting there eating hay, then BINKY into the water dish lol. Moose wasn’t sure what to think.
I also put them in the pen for a bit without me, I sat on the couch outside it watching them instead of sitting in it, went better than I had hoped ![]()
Yay! binky! thats good!! how much air did the little thing get ![]()
Monkey being a female will be complicated; there may always be times where she ticks Moose off and he in turn may resort to a nip. My rabbit Deirdra puts a chase on Lint or Neigey regularly, and it looks mean, but it isn’t a problem. They just get out of her zone. This is why some bonded rabbits must have a bigger space.
They’ll have the entire apartment once they are bonded, so space shouldn’t be an issue ![]()
Another decent session, we started with the cube to encourage some snuggles, which happened. Snuggle bunnies rock
Went to the pen after that, they were in the pen for a good hour… had a little nipping and chasing towards the end, so we popped em back int he cube to settle down. Back to snuggle buns
The cube helps a bit when moose gets nippy it seems, so we’ll keep putting them in the cube when he gets mean.
How nippy does Moose get? If it’s not leading to a fight, you may soon want to think of moving them in together. After two and a half months of housing together, Neigey still nips Lint.
Well today he tugged out some fur off of Monkey, she’s very agile and usually jumps away when he gets nippy and chasey. He chases and nips quite frequently, although he usually gives in and flops and grooms her…I’m doing extra sessions with them each day now, and last night they were in a pen together for a good 3 hours. Later on I’ll rearrange some stuff in the living room and give them a bigger area to play in and see how they do.
Moose did binky today in the pen with her though ![]()
TWO BINKIES!!! maybe they have a tough love relationship???
I think maybe its Moose getting bored without his stuff, thus why we’re gonna give them plenty of room tonite, see how it goes.
cant wait for update
So M&M have been playing in the living room the past 2 hours. They’re doing quite well, theres been tons of binkies and flops, both are eating hay and using the litter box. The only thing is Moose likes chasing her. I’m convinced he’s doing it to be playful now, as he’s been binkying halfway through the chases, seems he’s an aggressive player, I blame the hubby for that. he’s always wrestling with Moosie
Monkey isn’t impressed with the chasing, but she’s outrunning him no problem. Moose did get a mouthful of fur off of her though. No ouchie spots on Monkey, I checked immediately after I saw the fur. Right now she’s flopped by the water bowl, and Moose is zooming around the chair.
It’s looking good! Tomorrow I’ll let them out again while hubby is at work, I’ll relax and watch the 2 twilight movies while they play. Hubby says I’m not allowed to make him watch them again so I gotta watch em when he isn’t home
Bunny play time seems like a good time to watch em. If they do good tomorrow I’ll contemplate an over night stay soon, I’ll just have to move Moosie’s stuff around and tidy up his bachelor pad.
It’s looking good!
Sure is! It does sound like it’s Moose’s way of play or courting her. hehe.
May you have your own Bella & Edward soon. Maybe the nips are love bites?…
Vampire bunneh! Rawr
Monkey is transformed into a Moose. You should write a series of books about that!
lol! Somethign tells me it would be a very short story, and not at all exciting
Full of staring and flops. hehe
Why is Husband off the hook? Does he chase you around and binky while he’s doing it?
Monkeybun & Monkey, “Not tonight, Guys. We have headaches.”
lol!
Well. Had them out for a bit today… forgot to close the door to Moosie’s pen, so naturally Monkey had to go investigate… that starts a big fight between them, Moose was not a happy bun. Lots of growling and biting and not very fun at all. Note to self: close pen doors. I’ll let them out again later on after we’ve all cooled down, see how they do again. It was ok until monkey went into moose’s pen, although she was a scaredy bun the entire time, every time moose can near, she’s high tail it out of there away from him, didn’t let him get close at all.
Aww, I’m sorry. Hopefully this isn’t a big setback.
Well, right now they are flopped on their own sides of the pen bars, next to each other, so it shouldn’t be too bad ![]()
You’re lucky. It was like WWE Smackdown at my house tonight. :0(
Sounds like some of the pen sessions I’ve done with M&M. they seem fine out in larger areas, or stuck in the cube, but in the pens, not so good
Stupid bunnies. Why can’t they just trust us to know what’s good for them?
Another successful session, they were out for 2 hours, had a bit of chasing, Moose’s ears not in the “pissed off bunny” pose at all, more like playful “lets run!” pose.. Monkey still wasn’t impressed with not being able to flop and relax.. Moose was on the go all night lol. We’ll do more tomorrow ![]()
Congrats!!!
to be safe, bonding rabbits that have fought over pens shouldn’t have access to the area close to one another’s pens. It is not worth risking a fight that will set them back. Monkeybun, can you take down the pens and build them a new one?
Uh oh. What about a cage? I can’t rebuild Zinnia’s cage. Would cleaning it really good with vinegar work?
It is an NIC cage, right? Once they are ready to move in together, I highly recommend taking it down especially since Zinnia is a female. No worries, though, just take it down, soak the grids in vinegar water and when puttng it back together make sure you change up the shape and flooring. You could use a tarp temporarily even though some bunnies dig those up, just until their cementing phase is completed.
I sent you a PM.
The problem with taking the cage down is that it’s a double decker cage and if I take hers down I take Oliver and Ozzie’s down too. What the heck am I gonna do with four rabbits while I rebuild a cage that took me 3 hours to put up in the first place???
I forgot how much you hated cage-building…
As an alternative, you could house Zinnia and Troubs together for their cementing phase somewhere other than the shared double decker condo. Could you take an old wire dog crate maybe and set it up in your kitchen for example? Once their cementing is complete they can move into Zinnia’s old cage.
Now, the pen Troubs is living in…I could totally soak that in my tub in vinegar water and the put them in another room to cement the bonding.
This is a good compromise. I woud do it but change it inside with new litterboxes ad accessories.
The moment you decide to cement the bond though, realize that you cannot seperate them for any reason for the next two weeks. You can break up fights, but don’t take one away from the other. They have to realize that they will be there no matter what they do. It is a stressful time and I have found the best way to deal with it is to simply stay away from them during it. Your stress will translate to them and they’ll get all jumpy and nippy because of it.
Petzy, I’m totally going to take down the pens and rebuild the cage once they are bonded. Going to give the living rooms sessions a bit more time first tho, as hubby is nervous about the chasing still. I make sure to have the pens closed off now when I let them out ![]()
They’re out and playing again right now, both behaving nicely. I took the time to clean Monkey’s pen, as the little dork had gone on a paper and hay throwing spree. Hay everywhere… They kept each other company while the scary vacuum was going, and they did very well.
A friend of my hubby’s is coming over shortly, we’ll see how they do when theres someone new in their living room ![]()
Had them running around for 4 hours tonite, no mishaps
Monkey binkied a couple times when Moose was chasing her, so I think she’s having some fun with it lol.
So. Play time seems to be going okay, except Moose still chases. And no one has done any grooming the last couple days. Monkey tries to get close, but Moose always goes to chase her when she does… Poor little girl just wants to snuggle!
Monkey, can you post a video of how Moose chases Monkey? How far does he chase her, or for how long? How does the chasing stop? Do they eat together? How is litterbox sharing coming along? Does Moose chase Monkey out of it?
Sometimes they eat hay together, sometimes Moose chases her away from the pile when she is eating.. it seems to vary. I’ll try and catch a video of it tomorrow, its too dark in there right now for one. Sometimes he chases her all around the living room, for as long as I’ll let him. Sometimes he only chases her a couple of feet. He often stops on his own, sometimes I have to tell him to stop in a loud voice.. sometimes he listens, sometimes I have to get up and make him stop.
The litter box seems fine for the most part, although Monkey is getting nervous around Moose now, she’s always jumping away when he gets near… except for earlier, when Moose did something new. He perched on my hubby’s shoulder on the couch for a good hour, and Monkey came to investigate, and Moose gave her some kisses for the first time in like 3 days. I told my hubby that I guess he’s the new neutral territory, and we need to do sessions on him now lol.
The short chases away from food piles or even out of the litterbox are fine, they may even continue into your cementing phase. Until Moose gives up the ongoing chases around the room though don’t house them together yet.
Yeah thats what I was thinking. I’ve been trying ot get a video of him chasing her, but well… he’s stopped chasing her like he had been. lol. He’ll do short chases, or he’ll binky after, or she will binky.. he isn’t nipping as much now either. AND he grooms her more often when they are out playing. So they are slowly working it out
Monkey is still a bit nervous when he comes near her, but doesn’t always hop away now. They’ve been eating hay side by side with no problems now too. Soon!! I’ll give them another week of playing together to see what happens ![]()
Binkies after her? That’s not chasing ![]()
He doesn’t always binky tho ![]()
I get it. I’m just kidding around!
So don’t move them in together until they both binky together in unison! ![]()
hehe yeah, we’re in no rush. Gonna wait and see if Monkey will calm down and not be as nervous around him first.
You are right to take it slow. Love to see a video again of them
I got a video of Moosie binkying the other night.. been having issues uploading it tho >.< I'll try again today ![]()
at last. My turn.
*poke, poke, poke!*
I’ll have it posted soon! lol I got a couple pics too…
here’s a few pics til I can get the video uploaded…
Moose with his hay

M&M lounging.. pic was taken by hubby with his phone so its not that great quality ![]()

Eatign hay together.. don’t mind Monkey’s poopies…

Moose playing peekaboo

Posing for the camera

Moose pretending to be a parrot with my hubby

He decided it was a comfy spot and loafed

Monkey had to come see what he was doing…

![]()
Raisin time!
He has cool markings on his leg there – handsome Moosie! I wonder is the chasing is their play or courting?
Edit: Just saw you added the video. I think you’re nearly at cementing phase. Wonder how Monkey will like being penned up 24/7 again? ![]()
If its in the bigger cage and pen with the view outside, she won’t mind lol. She loooves Moosie’s pen as it is, when its “hers” she’ll be happy
So when they are bonded, I should keep them in the pen for awhile and not let them out?
Itty bitty update… tonite we gave them their greens together in the living room for the first time.. and there was no fighting over the tasty nommies
We separated it into 2 piles, one for each bun, although Moose went over to investigate Monkey’s pile after he was done his and happily stole her cilantro. She didn’t mind, she had gotten her carrot tops first. lol. So.. eating together with no arguments = good sign!
Oh, what a cute video of them! Moose is so sweet, at least at raisin time…
Did you hide his leg markings all this time from us?
No, theres a few pics of him floating around on here of his feets ![]()

So when they are bonded, I should keep them in the pen for awhile and not let them out?
Well here’s the thing, according to SaveABunny, to cement the bond, they should remain in close quarters (aka the condo/pen) for two weeks. However, since both have been hopping around freely together, I’m not certain that is the best idea since they’ll feel as if they’re being punished for being together. My suggestion would be keep them in the pen for 48 hours then let them out only in an area where they can constantly see one another (no places to hide from one another).
Alrighty thanks MarkBun
Once I get to the cementing stage, which should be soon, judging how they are acting towards each other, thats what I will do. ![]()
Soo… tonite we are going to rearrange cages, take out Miss Monkey’s, and put em together. Moose ahs stopped the mean chasing, they have taken to loafing near each other, not floppign yet, but loafing.

And Miss Monkey does try to groom him more when out… its challenging to get up to those ears of his though ![]()

Wish us luck!!
Good luck! ![]()
Yay Moose and Monkey! Good luck!
Oh god.. trying to follow this hole bonding story but just to much to read. .$*&! how many pages..
Can you sum the hole thing up for me.. I’d luv to read your story .. start to finish.. !! Please some day when you have time…
The little black bun is moneybun right?
Hugs.. dee
Moneybun!
MONEYbun! I love it. I want a moneybun too!
Deannaline, I had written up some bonding stories after a member on here asked, so, in the meantime, you could browse through that. Each bonding is unique, though.
https://www.binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/a…fault.aspx
ugh .. just watched the video in the tub.. ugh . .that would be even tough.. ready to save the poor one.. thanks.. no probs.. just so much reading through all replys..
The big bunny in the tub was allowed to go on nipping the little white bun because I have bonded her several times and I know how she is. It’s really important to know your rabbit’s intentions. Plus, the little white one was scurrying away so it was alright. You have to let the rabbits ‘talk it out’ but their words are actions: mounting, fur-plucking, chasing, etc. but while you do that, you also have got to keep them from tearing each other up.
Well lets see… We took Monkey to meet the local boys, Moose, was Max at the time, was her favorite. She was a humpy Monkey with him
So, we took Moosie home. Their first sessions were kinda scary, didn’t last long. Had to take a break for awhile from bonding due to an injury of mine, their second attempt went much better. It’s progressed to where we can let them out to play for 6-8 hours together no problem, except for a bit of chasing, which Moose sometimes binkies in the middle of. Silly man. We used a cube made of NIC grids, Petzy’s idea, to stress them and make em snuggle. Worked wonders! Both buns groomed alot in it
Tonite we are tearing down both cages and building a new one, gonna be their first night together. I’m prepared with a nest for myself beside it, and the e-vet’s phone number and a map to the e-vet just in case
*crosses fingers*
A nest for yourself shows that you are a pro. ![]()
I got my fluffy extra duvet, plus 4 other blankies to make me a nice cushy nest. PLUS a body pillow and 2 other pillows, and a Hello kitty plushie for snuggles
hehe
I wonder if you will sleep though. I never could the first night of cementing.
I doubt I will lol. i have a pile of books too, just in case. Plus the xbox nearby
I bought the Boogie Bunnies game that MM has.. its addictive ![]()
Hilarious! Goodluck MB & have fun at the sleep over.
(MonkeyxMoose)
@Deannaline: The bonding forum can seem a bit overwhelming. I lot of us give accounts of the bonding process like keeping a diary. It helps to look back at it and see where you’re at as well as how far you’ve progressed. Also a chance to have others offer ways to get past problems that may arise.
Each bonding is different depending on the bunnies and even the bonder. So each account here will vary too. Some of the bonding articles give a basic run down of methods and what to expect. I recommend reading those 1st, then looking at personal bonding stories after. I think this article is a good article to start with/ I really liked it. http://www.rabbitnetwork.org/articles/bond.shtml Absolutely read the thread Petzy linked also. After reading an account of multiple bondings, you’ll think bonding a pair is a cinch!
Well, they’ve been together for a couple hours now. Moose did a bit of chasing, nothing major really. No biting. He stopped on his own. And then he flopped in the bed by Monkey’s bear. I’ll update with pics tomorrow ![]()
Well.
This didn’t go so well.
Moose all out attacked little Monkey, fur everywhere. Hubby is scared he’s going to kill her, so they are separated again, and hubby is saying that even though he likes Moose, he isn’t going to allow him to attack her like this. he wants to get rid of him.
Help? How do I get Moose to stop doing this? He seems so nice alot, then he just turns mean and attacks her… ![]()
It happened with most of my bonds, when I put them in for their first overnight session. It is a very touchy thing, that first night. I wonder if it has to do also with rabbits being more active at night and so there is the extra energy. Plus, they had to re-establish themselves because you set them up in a changed habitat. Your only problem is convincing your husband that it can still work. Did Moose break any skin on Monkey, or was it just fur, lots of fur? If it was just fur, proceed with sessions as you have, starting each session in the cube. I know it would be easy to throw in the towel now but you have come very far. How big is their cementing area?
Don’t give up! You really are close, they just may not have been completely ready yet. They can be so touchy! Monkey doesn’t sound like she is terrified of Moose after this though. I would keep up with the sessions, the hubby will be the hardest part. (((Bonding vibes!!!)))
Monkey can you put pictures of their cementing pen (without bunnies) here please?
Monkey, what was the fight like exactly, how long did it last, did Monkey try to get away or did she turn on Moose during his attack?
Well, Monkey was running in circles trying to get away from him, was alot of fur everywhere, no broken skin that I could tell. When I caught Monkey to get her away from Moose, she flattened herself against me, and crawled up towards my shoulder to cower under my hair. Poor baby was shaking
She didn’t turn on Moose at all. She’s been trying her hardest to get Moosie to like her, she grooms him whenever she can get close to him.
I’ll post a pic I took of the pen after we finished it, before the buns were put inside after I upload it.
Sometimes it takes a couple of attempts of moving them in together permanently. It is very positive that Monkey just ran, as stressful as it was, it is a good thing. I look forward to the picture. Have you kept them separate or did you make them snuggle in the cube?
We tried a snuggle session in the cube, but Moose still went after her in it. So, they got separated for the night.
You need to go back to stress bonding after a cooling-off period.
Thats what I figured… hubby needs cooling off too i think ![]()
Here’s the pen..

And just for fun…

It’s too big in my estimation, and it has too many nice things/spots, at this point. I would recommend a pen half that size next time, use only the gold pen, no NIC shelves, put a nasty smelly new tarp as flooring and two litterboxes. No bowls, no toys, no luxuries. Make it small, make it plain and a little scary.
the pen looks nice. i am so sorry about the setback (((((((((((bonding vibes))))))))))))))
Hmm so take out the cage and toys? Ok.. except Moose always chased more in the pen sessions when he had nothing to do lol.
The pen in your photo is fantastic but it would be your final habitat when they have cemented their bond. I know he will chase Monkey but some rabbits will chase the other in the beginning, it is like the humpiness, they must get it out of their system, It is a way to establish dominance. Lint chased Deirdra around for quite a while, it seemed like forever. Deirdra still chases Neigey around but it has gotten less and less. As long as Monkey runs off it is acceptable. The smaller size will force Monkey to be in Moose’s proximity even though she may not want to be. It also minimizes the kind of run they have to accelerate speed, a slippery surface (tarp) will add a stressor. If you don’t have a tarp or want to buy one — I have used a shower curtain from the $store for the same purpose. You can dump a pile of hay in the middle for Moose to nibble and a toy then that Moose has shared with Monkey before, but no hidey places.
Ok, we’ll try that. We do have an extra shower curtain believe it or not lol.
It may get destroyed a little so I hope it isn’t a fancy shower curtain.
Also, CottonTiger on here had used blankets to cover the sides of her bonding pen, you could do that to create a new atmosphere too. I liked that idea very much.
Nah, its just a $5 clear plastic thing we bought to go under the cloth one to stop water from getting out. We just never hung it up ![]()
btw, your pen is so nice, my quartet want to move in with you.
I hung towels on the sides of the pen we were using for sessions to make it neutral, but Moose just pulled the towels through the bars and chewed em up ![]()
that Moose… what a brat! Scrap that idea then! Definitely go with the bare slippery smaller pen though.
Will do! Hope it works out, as I like the little bugger. he’s such a sweetie when he isn’t being an ass to Monkey..lol
Oh god Monkeybun.. I will be following your story.. ugh. This is all I think about these days.. 3 – 4 more wks and Nalla comes home. !!!!
I am reading this thread through my fingers so I can cover my face REALLYFAST if fur starts flying.
I should have gotten a pic of how much fur Moose had pulled off of Monkey… was scary
Almost had enough for a second Monkey!
eek! i go away for a few days and THIS is what happens !?!?
btw, twix and hershey left me after they saw your pen, they put styrofoam carrots in a box and hopped on in… should be there soon, dont open your door they will ruin your house!
*gets giganticallyhugemassivelargebiggesthugesthugerseticGINORMOUS stick out*
*hides it behind back*
Whats goin onnnnn! *pours love potion on moosie* Gotcha!
You should come down here and see how Monkey and Bun get along. I have a cabin we can vacation in btw
a BUNCATION!!!!
Moose would feel so left out then, he should have a date with Bee
Gonna start up the bonding sessions here in a couple more days. Gonna let things get back to normal after us being gone for a few days.
I thought Moose was on time out! Well,Good good!!! – I can’t wait! He’s feeling much better now <3 Poor guy. Little Monkeylooloo is so so cute! I don't know how he resists her! Those tiny ears are enough for anyone to squeal EeeeEee!!! *snuggle snuggle*
Did you see my stick? lol
hehehe maaaaybe. And yeah, Moose is back to normal, stuffing his face like usual. He gets more excited about treats now too, its funny. He’s been watching Monkey dance for them for too long now lol. Before he’d be content to wait for me to bring a raisin to him in his cage while he flopped, now he dashes to the side of the pen and puts his feet waaaay up on a bar to try and reach it as soon as possible. He’s tall when he stretches!
Oh that’s terrific! *gives Moose a craisin* You should take photos of this for us ![]()
I’m glad to hear Moose is back to normal again, healthwise. I think it’s time to start a new thread on them, MB, as soon as you start up again.
Lintini, I liked your stick. Keep that thing away from me, will ya….Pix MonkeyBun, you heard her. She “walks loudly and carries a big stick.”
What is your plan for the start-up-again sessions? I read somewhere else you posted Moose is nipping Monkey through the cage bars. His attitude will be unchanged. I think you need to confuse Moose with a new space, somewhere he is not comfortable in. By now, he must think he owns your apartment.
Can you use your car now?
Yeah we can use the car. Me and the hubby were gonna do that for the sessions. My hubby’s driving should scare them lol. And Moose isn’t comfortable in the bathtub at all, so that might be good too, even though I can’t kneel on the floor. hubby can tho
I’ll start up a Take Three thread once I get them going ![]()
yea.. this thread is huge.. lost in it… to long.. luv it thou.. read each day.. !!!!!!!!!!!!!
aww they’re so cute! Monkey looks so tiny next to Moose ![]()
Did you do your session tonight? *poke* You ditched me on FB to do it I hope it went well!
Yep, did a pen session tonite. Moose nipped at her bottom a few times, but didn’t chase after her. Ended it after an hour on a forced snuggle ![]()
Daww.. happy snuggles for Monkey!!! How can he resist such a cutie?
He sounds stubborn ![]()
Is this the 1st session since Mooses stasis? If so, that’s pretty good!!
It’s actually the third
We did a cube session where monkey groomed him, he loafed the entire time. Then a pen session, where he did the same thing as he did the 3rd session. No chasing, no big scary bites, no pulled out fur. Gonna try a car ride if hubby is up for it today. If not, gonna do another pen session.
Did an hour long cube session while watching some NCIS tonite.
Mutual grooming, only a couple small “get out of my way i want to flop there” nips.
![]()
yay!!!
How is the bond coming along, Monkey?
It’s coming along
Been doing nightly cube sessions, Moosie has been doing TONS of grooming. A few pen sessions, which have gone pretty good. There hasn’t been any major chasing, although Moosie still likes to turn his head and nip at Monkey’s butt now and then. But no fur has been pulled out, no nasty wounds or anything. So, it’s coming along ![]()
Pic-ies?!?!
I’m doin’ a cube session now, too! CHEERS! ….that…. doesn’t make any sense right now…. does it? ……. ![]()
Didn’t Moosie not groom Monkey in the beginning? And now he is a lot? Well, if that’s true, tell him to give my bun, Benny, a little pep talk.
“You can do it! He might not even taste that bad! Then everything will be better between you two!”
ADDDDD:!:!:!:!:!:!
100th POST! WOOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!! I got my second wittle wabbit head!! ![]()

I’d take pics, but they’d be all the same as the old ones lol. I’ll take more when they start doing something different.
In the beginning Moosie was being stubborn and not grooming Monkey, then he decided he liked to chase and bite her. He’s settling down now ![]()
Did you by any chance do anything to try and get Moose to groom her? Even if it wasn’t actually what made him groom in the end. Did you try banana on their head or something like that?
Nope, he just started on his own ![]()
I’m happy that Moosie is returning love for Monkey bun!
Yay Moosie! Finally showing his girlfriend some lovins.
Might do some car rides this weekend too, to change things up for them. He likes to snooze through part of the cube sessions now, so he’s getting a little too comfy during them I think lol.
Yay! I am so happy for you – tell that Monkeylooloo to get him into shape!
No pics but… tonite, when Moosie had his play time int he living room, he went and flopped next to Monkey’s cage, and Monkey stretched her littler tongue through the bars to groom him
He just stayed flopped and enjoyed it ![]()
!!!!!!!!! YAAAAAAAAAAY!!! *grabs Mimz pom poms* WOooO WoooO *high kick* (ouch) lol
Well.
Cube sessions are pretty much just a big ol’ groom fest now. They do great every time they are in teh cube.
It’s pen sessions they don’t seem to do well in. Moosie still chases… hubby gets worried, Monkey squeaks, Moosie chases….
Kind of at a loss for how to progress lol. Should I just be hands off with a pen session and let Moosie chases and see what happens?
Posted By Monkeybun on 06/16/2010 01:33 PM
Well.Should I just be hands off with a pen session and let Moosie chases and see what happens?
Pretty much . What else is left for you to do? You have exhausted everything else. They need to sort it out. Moose should be satisfied with Monkey darting away. Neigey and Deirdra kept this up for months, not all the time, but daily.

Vampire bunneh! Rawr
lol, don’t you mean…
Dun, dun, dun…

BUNNICULA. lol ![]()
Seriously though, I need more pics of your bunnies. They’re so freaking adorable, I can’t handle it.
Just curious, is Monkey on the small side for a Netherland dwarf? I don’t know much about Netherlands, but she seems so tiny! ![]()
Edit: Sorry this is so off-topic. I know absolutely nothing about bonding… ![]()
I watch as Maryann still chases Dono in their condo. Funny thing is that once Dono stops running, she comes up short, not sure what to do, so just gives him kisses and moves along.
Okay, thats what I will do then
Merbella, yes Monkey is a dwarf dwarf hehe. She is about 1.5 lbs, most nethies are 2-3 lbs. She was the runt of her litter ![]()
How did the chasing go?
*gets out the biggest poking stick of ‘you should log out of starcraft 2 and WoW and get those 2 dating you have ever seen!!!!!’*
(I say this with only the most love ever
)
Yeah yeah I know
With smudge here its gotten kinda crowded for bonding sessions. But theres the bathroom in the bedroom, or the bedroom itself i could use i suppose…
3rd time’s the charm!
*pokes Lintini regarding Bee, Indy & Bun* ![]()
Hey, Hows it going with Smudge and Moose round 2 ???
You keepin her??!?!
Moosie is not liking Smudge at all. Unhappy man.
Was gonna try her with Monkey again, but I’ve been sick the last couple days, and just too tired. I’ll try them again tomorrow, and will decide from there.
Ugh Moose needs to be beat up by Bee!!
