So Honey has been acting increasingly weird the past week or so. Grunting and making allll kinds of nasty sounding noises, acting very territorial whenever I come near her cage, and absolutely DESPISES when I have to clean it. Normally, she is very tolerating of me picking her up to move her, or bring her over to where I am sitting, and she will have NONE of that now. Once she comes out of her cage on her own, she is usually okay to be petted and such.

I started to get worried, and tonight, I saw clumps of fur in her cage, not off of the top of her body, but off of her belly. (They were white, and she’s cream with a white belly). None of the hairs were cream colored. And she was missing patches.

I know this is signs of a false pregnancy, right?

I’m scheduling her spay this week. (She’s about 8 months now). I was trying to save up for it but I guess I’ll just have to use credit. I have a feeling her hormones are going haywire as Kit is reaching maturity, and is trying to mark everything.

Am I on the right track??

Definitely and kudos for making the appt. for the spay! She’s definitely feeling way hormonal! Full horomone decompression takes a while so don’t expect (although it could happen) a perfectly behaved bunny until up to a month after the spay.

Your description of Honey sounds EXACTLY like my bunny, Olivia, who is getting spayed in October. She’s approx 1 year old (although that’s pretty much a guess). Honey and Olivia are displaying normal female territorial aggression. My rainbow bridge bunny Velvet was spayed as soon as I noticed the growling starting (about 8 months) and she totally knocked it off after about a month after the spay. Let us know how her spay goes.

Yea Fern is luckily not acting aggressive at all, but the perfect and QUIET bunny she used to be has disappeared! LOL, she now has a couple of missions she is committed to, she wants to: chew everything she is not supposed to chew, ignore everything she is supposed to chew, get into every nook and cranny possible, And make as much noise as possible (Especially in the early morning)! I cannot wait till she is old enough to get spayed!!

Thanks for the input. I just scheduled a checkup for next Thurs, and the spay next Friday. I’m really nervous because she doesn’t like car rides, and will probably be a wreck at the vet. =\

What does this mean? It’s straight off of the HRS website(I figured I’d do my pre-operative reading).

“Give the rabbit acidophilus for a couple of days prior to surgery, just to be certain that the digestive system is functioning in fine form. Don’t change the diet it any way during this time.”

I’ve never given any of my rabbits any special products before surgery. I’d definetly ask my vet about that if I were you though. I’m not sure what it is either.

We had a discussion about this earlier but I’m as bad as a blind truck driver trying to go back and search to link to past discussions *smacks head*

it’s a drug that’s having some positive results, I believe it’s one of those all natural thingys (I believe it’s a prebiotic…) and I’m so bad I can’t remember what it was for…

But anyways although some people use it and like it, it’s NOT necessary Talk to your vet about it at the checkup if you like and see what he/she says about using it.

i’m glad you’re taking her in to have her spayed soon. it def. sounds like she’s ready. she’s not going to like the car, but it’s one of those things she will need to deal with. she has to get there somehow. how far is the vet?

The vet is about 35 mins away– but probably longer because this is the first time i’ve ever been!

ugh. I guess sometimes us bunny parents need to take a chill pill.
