Hi all, so Starlight has been so moody lately and I don’t know why. When I went to say good morning and giver her a tummy rub she proceeded to growl and run away, then turned to me with the “treats please look” and stood on her hind legs and begged like normal. This isnt the only time too, one minute she’s licking you like you need a shower and the next she’s running away or growling. Why? She is spayed, got her spayed in August. I don’t think she is sick cuz she has no problem eating everything and anything in front of her.

I had a male bun, neutered, that behaved like that when he was a “teenager”. One moment hed growl and lunge, the next he’d put his chin on the floor, demanding pets. Cats can show a similar type of behavior. In cats its believed to be about a conflict between the wild, untrusting side of the animal’s personality and the domesticated, trusting side. It could be sth similar that’s going on with rabbits. They’re not as fully domesticated as dogs are.

Did he eventually come around when he got a little older?

Oh yes, he did! He became very bonded to me. When I sat at my writing desk, he demanded that I pet his head with my foot, for hours on end. I obviously complied 😂

My girl Clover is super bossy and sassy and will give me the stink eye and thump or grunt at me if I’m annoying her, but then she loves me so much when I’m not annoying her. Since you have a girl I think you might have a sassy pants bunny on your hands too, but hopefully it’s just a phase!

                      Hello..

Here’s one good reason a bunny can be so erratic on wanting you to touch them or running away from you.

STINKY HANDS…. bunnies have a nose for trouble in the wild.

Hand soaps, lotions, hand sanitizer, and perfume scents will upset your bunners…

I currently have this Adorable little Dutch girlie and like my other Does they will basically attack me if I have STINKY hands from dish soap or anything with an odor on my hands.

Also if you have another animal that pesters or scares them while you’re away. For instance a dog that comes to the cage and barks at them out of bordom.. WHICH will give your bunny a heart attack or put them into shock and possibly kill your bunbuns..

So it’s possible the bunny is not mad at you just being scared to death and when you come around the bunny needs some serious calming down methods like lovings and being gently held and talked to.

Rabbits are very sentive to scents of various kinds. They can detest certain perfumes, and love others. This is why soap of some specific brands are used as deterrents for buns that have a penchant for gnawing on furniture.

Rabbits also readily pick up on scents from other animals on our hands and clothes, not just other buns. We have had several reports from people who have been met with aggression by their rabbit when they come home after having volunteered at an animal shelter. Rabbits are highly territorial due to the massive amount of energy they put into making their warrens. That means they cant “afford” strangers in their home.

Not all rabbits like being held, but I do think the majority of rabbits enjoy it when we are in the same room as them and speak softly to them, with or without petting them at the same time. When my bun Vilde was new in my home, I read aloud to him to make him accustomed to my voice. Others, I know, have played soft music to their buns, which also seems to have a soothing effect.
